Background
For the majority of his life, Gress had been a typical Ithorian. He lived on one of the many herdships that floated over the Ithorian homeworld of Ithor and was raised, like nearly all of his species, to deeply revere "Mother Jungle," the embodiment of life on Ithor. He was quite receptive to these teachings and consequently grew to be an esteemed member of his community, held in high regard by each member of his herdship, especially the leader, a priest named Roghul. Roghul took Gress as something of a protege, tutoring him in the ways of botany and the preservation of all life. But while Roghul was traditional in most respects, he also held a deep curiousity about the world outside of Ithor. Inevitably, this curiousity got the better of him and he decided that he would journey to the worlds beyond Ithor, bringing Gress along with him. The two traveled to many planets across the galaxy, seeing many wondrous things and meeting many new and exotic peoples. But Gress and Roghul also saw something else festering in the galaxy - injustice. The Empire had taken power only a few years before, but they had already made their ugly mark on the galaxy, one that the two Ithorians bore unfortunate witness to. Starvation, slavery, and violence ran rampant in every corner, shocking the two, especially Gress. He had always thought (perhaps naively) that each being held the same respect for life, but what he saw in the outside world shattered that belief. Finally, after several encounters with the horrid face of evil throughout the galaxy, Gress decided he could not stand to do nothing any longer. The two Ithorians' next stop, Felucia was where Gress' first act of resistance would take place. Imperial colonists who had recently arrived on the planet were in the process of bulldozing an entire jungle in order to force out the native population. This flagrant disregard for life was something Gress could not abide. Thus, in the dead of night, the Ithorian used munitions from the colonist's very own armory to destroy their machines and spook the engineers assigned to the project. Inevitably, Roghul found out about Gress' destructive actions and admonished him for being so reckless and violent. The two soon returned to Ithor, where Gress was exiled for his conduct on Felucia, being told he was not welcome back on Ithor.
Years passed, with Gress spending his time protecting for life across the galaxy, which much of the time brought him into conflict with the Empire. Due to this relationship, he soon came into contact with the Rebel Alliance, and soon joined them, hoping he would be able to do further good by cooperating with other like-minded individuals.
