Background
The Black Family is not an old one so far as the Empire is concerned. At one time the members were outlaws on the Outer Rims, fighting and dying by the blaster. There the family was a known entity filled with bravados, riflemen, gamblers and gunslingers. Jessup Black was the man that gunned down twelve Trandoshian warriors while they rushed toward him. Caroline Black is still whispered about for the Dune Races she won and some way cheated her way through. Greywind Ford holds a simple sign speaking of when a single member of the Black family placed a single blaster bolt through the skull of a famed warleader at a sight few can see from that point. Minnesota Black could tell of all these stories as if she were there to live them. The lineage of her family was a constant topic growing up. Situated on her grandfather’s lap she heard all these stories even though the man was too young then to have lived them.
Long ago the family of outlaws had come into power and money. Fighting their way along the frontier worlds had given them unique access to transports and trading ships. Her family went from robbing shipments to protecting them to eventually managing them. Black Trading became the name her family was known by and when the Emperor required assistance funding his armies, the Black family was there for the right price. Courtly life became a routine Minnesota could not take. Dance recitals were missed for target practice and fancy dresses were turned in so that she could buy her first blaster. At first her Father indulged her whimsies but the final steps were taken when she returned with a Guild License to hunt bounties.
Some say her mother passed out on sight while her Father nearly shot her. Scorch marks can still be seen on the actual license she carries with her from the blaster bolt. Assets were frozen in her accounts but she was unperturbed. Mounting the first flight she could before her Father could stop her, Minnesota made for some world, any world outside the Core.
Motivation
Reputation is everything in this Galaxy. Minnesota Black knows that more than most learning at the hands of her family’s reputation and then later having to fight that reputation to gain respect for herself. She wants nothing more than to establish a name for herself and for her craft. This will often lead her to reckless action and large risk wanting to make sure everyone knows that she is more than just a rich girl playing with guns.
Obligations
The Black Family - 5
Powerful and wealthy, the Black family was one of the first to declare their allegiance to the Empire. Possessing a large fleet of transport ships and factories the family has made a fortune distributing and dealing in arms with the Imperial Army. Minnesota's family does not approve of her choices, often making sure that she is aware of their displeasure with reminders from their Imperial allies and the concessional docking of her family money.
Reputation - 9
Many other Bounty Hunters view her as a rich girl playing with blasters. Rumor has it that she paid for her Guild access and that much of the bounties she has brought in are simply bought off.
