Rook knows how it is to live on the fringe, the difference between being the ones who have, and those who do not. Growing up in a large imperial mining town in the outer rim, Rook supported his family by selling and buying wares and contraband he got of passing smugglers.

The empire demanded larger and larger quotas and his father spent more and more time in the mines, barely able to afford food and with a severe lung condition growing worse every day because of the fumes in the mines. Without the extra money that Rook brought, he never would have made it.

Eventually when Rook got around 20 years of age, he had gathered connections and experience to manage a big part of the black market. Rooks hatred for the empire had grown year by year as he blamed them for his fathers worsening condition, so whenever smugglers and others brought military equipment labeled “hunting equipment” or similar, he made sure they would get an discount. Being young and rash, Rook eventually gathered enough heat when trading in spices and blasters. From one of his connections he heard that the Empire was going to raid and confiscate his whole business. Seeing the danger, Rook took his father and the credits he had at hand and bought passage with one of his clients, someone who said that he “knew just the right place for your talents”.

Rook has been in the Outer rim all his life and knows that what makes the difference anything is the have and have-nots. The best pilot in the galaxy or the toughest Wookie will all eventually starve to death and even well trained but ill-equipped deadly bounty hunter can be shot in the back by a farmboy with a blaster and a dream. It comes down to logistics, to know your market, and sometimes be creative in a cruel world where supply and demand are our true oppressors.
