Background

Badu Arinwa is from a middle class, force-sensitive family, whose family history was originally aligned with the Sith during the Jedi Civil War, which left a lingering stain on Badu's family reputation. 20 years ago, Badu was in the tail end of finishing an ambitious Mirialan rite of passage working toward earning a new face tattoo, which would've raised the status of her family. The rite involved a type of missionary work -- volunteering an extensive amount of time as a healer for the poor in order to take a final oath to a Mirialan deity of healing, and become an official doctor. Such works are viewed by the entire Mirialan society as improving the collective fates of all Mirialans, as well as of Badu and her family.

At the time of the rite of passage, Badu was under intense pressure by her family to contribute to raising her family's status on her home world, and improving their public appearance, which did not lend her to enjoying her career.

Her missionary assignment took her to the Holy City on Jedha, where she had much more freedom to explore a positive, spiritual connection to the force, making true friends of several Jedi in the city, and learning to take truer enjoyment in her humanitarian mission.

During the destruction of the Holy City, Badu was severely wounded, and she was saved and evacuated by a stranger named Zason.

After evacuating, Badu scraped by on the run, and settled on Carlac to try to hide and have a quiet life.

Motivation

THE WEAK / CHARITY: Badu has a difficult time tolerating injustice and bullies, and is strongly motivated to do what she can to help the sick and the needy.

SPIRITUALITY: Badu has a strong interest in exploring spirituality, which is why she's so curious, fueling her education and interest in galactic lore. She asks too many questions, believes strongly in Mirialan fate, and is fascinated by knowledge about the Force.

CHILDHOOD FRIEND: Is always motivated to help Zason and patch up anyone he brings her.

OTHER (RITE OF PASSAGE): Has a lifelong wish to finish the rite she never had the chance to finish, and earn the tattoos that she genuinely wanted to earn in her society.

Obligations

RESPONSIBILITY (10): Providing care for force-sensitive people that Hector Gray rescues.

BETRAYAL (5): Her family still sides with the Empire, despite public appearances. During the Galactic Civil War, Badu refused to join her family's allegiance with the empire, and specifically requested to do her mission at the Jedi-aligned Holy City on Jedha.

FAVOR (5): Owes unsavory favors to a local rich businessman who pays for necessary medical supplies when Zason is off-world.

ADDICTION (5): Has a mental addiction to thrill-seeking and impulsivity when she's too stressed out, which helps her feel less constrained by feelings of responsibility, studies, and expectations of Mirialan culture. For example, as a teen, she rebelled against family expectations, pursued ties with resistance, and with Zason, she snuck into a kyber crystal mine to steal a crystal. As an adult, she gets a rush from hiding and helping force sensitives from the Empire, and has an absurd enjoyment from doing things like cliff jumping. When she runs out of medicine, she gets a rush from trying to get medicines through underhanded means--be it stealing, drugging a businessman, or attempting to seduce a rich patron. She is not necessarily successful at many of these attempts.

Description

Physically, Badu has green skin, purple eyes, and long, dark brown hair.
