Azerna's parents Ohonish and Saree Ryn were both born on the Togruta home world of Shili. Because of the communal nature of the Togruta Ohonish and Saree's individuality made them into social outcasts. That along with their natural curiosity led them to leave their home world together. They both had natural talents as engineers and found work in the Starship industry on Coruscant. It was here that Azerna was born and raised into her teenage years. Her parents then decided to move to Corellia to work for the Corellian Engineering Corporation in order to get away from the Imperial controlled Coruscant. The Corellian Corp also appealed to them because of their pacifist ways (uncommon for their species); with the Corellian Engineering Corp they could work on noncombat focused ships. Moving to Corellia in her teenage years where she was one of the few of her species Azerna turned to piloting in order to fit in. She quickly found that she was a talented pilot and surpassed many who had been flying their whole lives. Her knack for flying and the ethical values her parents had instilled in her led Azerna to join the Rebellion. While her parents did not approve of fighting they did believe in the cause. They said she had the Togruta hunger for battle. She sought to fight for freedom from oppression by flying for the Rebellion.
With little training the Rebel Alliance soon advanced her to pilot, and she was sent on her first mission with a hand picked section of talented new recruits like her.
