Background

A true-blooded Corellian, Astrid Vim took to piloting at a young age. Her parents were frequently away on cropdusting runs, so Astrid used fisticuffs and sheer willpower to show her seven older brothers that she deserved a place in the family hangar on Tralus. And when Astrid survived Tralus's Jarad Run at age twelve, her brothers realized she was the best pilot in the family, if not all of the Fed-Dub.

As she got older, Astrid's rough-and-tumble strategy to survive a big family became her preferred tactic for life in general. In her piloting, she couldn't help but to push her vehicles beyond their breaking points, smashing into grain silos and fences and crashing speeders for the thrill of it. Her father tried to steer the girl's energies into something more productive, like Chandrilan rug-weaving, or the kloo horn. But Astrid's mother had another idea. She urged her daughter to join the Fed-Dub Demolition Derby.

Astrid knew that demolition derby was her calling. She became a minor celebrity on the Corellian circuit, her knack for destroying vehicles and blowing away her rivals with non-lethal guns earning her trophies and enough winnings to purchase a small astromech droid, R3-GG ("Gigi") to help with post-derby repairs.

The fun ended when Imperial forces arrived to arrest Astrid just before a match at Cenerpoint Station. Gigi and the Corellian hid inside an engine shell, but Astrid overheard the troopers talking about "the Vim family's astromech" and "Rebel intelligence." Once the threat had passed, she got the truth out of the droid: Gigi had convinced Astrid's parents to conduct clandestine aerial surveillance for the Rebel Alliance during their cropdusting runs, and Gigi had been passing the data on to a Rebel contact who'd been frequenting Astrid's derbies.

The jig was up. Astrid rushed back home, but her family homestead had been razed to the ground, her family nowhere to be found. With no place to turn, Gigi led Astrid to meet her Rebel contact. Out of options and desperate to find her family, Astrid Vim became a Rebel pilot.

Motivation

Mayhem: Astrid derives pleasure through destruction. She seldom passes up a chance to cause conflict and confusion in her work, even to the possible detriment of her own wellbeing. Some might think she has a mental illness, but really she just loves watching things fall apart.

Duties

Sabotage: Astrid realizes that every Imperial asset destroyed is one that can't later be used against the Rebellion or innocent civilians. The overall strategy of the Rebellion relies sabotage and raids, and Astrid is fully committed to this plan of action. Whether or not to take another pass or hit one last secondary objective or target of opportunity is not even a question for her. Imperial troops without food, blaster gas, or supplies are easy pickings for the Rebels, and Astrid aims to make the Empire as weak as possible.
