1) Toluun discovered his Force sensitivity slowly, and then all at once. As a child, his dreams were unusually graphic - visions of people, places, and things he had never seen before, but which seemed extremely realistic and grounded for an imaginative, inquisitive child. He learned to live with them, though, and mostly trained himself to either ignore or suppress them - whatever they are, wherever they came from, they weren't particularly welcome in his life.
2) During Toluun's adolescence, during the height of the Galactic Civil War, he was constantly hounded by dreams and fears of his mother's death. To his great shame, he never spoke of these fears with her - these were merely dreams, after all, what harm could they do - and when her ship, the Liberty, was immolated by the Second Death Star, he could feel the loss from a galaxy away. He lives with this regret burned into him like the scars of his slave brand.
3) After the fall of the Empire, Toluun went to work at the newly expanded Mon Calamari Star Yards, helping to rebuild his people's fleet of cruise liners and deep space exploration vessels. But Cilghal, prescient as she is with the Force, instantly recognized his gifts on a chance meeting as she toured the facility - and offered him the opportunity to unlock them for a greater purpose.
4) I'd like Toluun to have a fiercely competitive rivalry with one of the other students at the Praxeum, but I'm not sure who yet, so we'll work on that as the character develops. He's also exceptionally close with his father, who now serves as one of the senior advisers to the Mon Calamari Senator, Greell Okas.
