Background

Sevrath Arjun was destined to become a gifted doctor. With an unusually adept understanding of medicine, he received an illustrious scholarship at Arkania Grand Academia. While studying there, he met and married fellow student Dracia Kanil. After graduating, the two opened a small clinic that specialized in providing care to those who could not afford the high cost of medical treatments. All seemed to be going well.

Then, suddenly, a plague began to sweep through the populace. Several respected physicians immediately rushed into action, Sevrath and Dracia among these. The brave physicians worked tirelessly in the quarantine zone, but soon even they began to contract the disease. Among the infected was Dracia. It became evident that this disease exploited a fundamental flaw in the Arkanian genome. When Sevrath approached the leaders of Arkania with the findings, asking permission to alter their genes to save the infected, they agreed the plague must be stopped. However, they requested that the uninfected depart the quarantine zone and continue their research outside so as not to lose anyone else. The doctors all complied, but as soon as the doctors all did so the Arkanians bombarded the zone, wiping everything out in a "cleansing blast of white-hot fire." Everyone infected, including Dracia, died.

Enraged, Sevrath and the other physicians returned to the leaders and demanded an explanation. The leaders told them it was an unfortunate necessity to protect Arkanian society. If word of a flaw in their genetics was to be spread, then everything the people had been taught would be viewed as a lie. Everything would collapse. One by one, they bought off all the doctors with money, possessions, status. Only Sevrath remained, undeterred, determined to let others know what happened. When they offered to create for him a new wife, Arjun snapped. He assaulted one of their members, but was quickly subdued. For his refusal to back down, he was formally stripped of his medical credentials.

A year passed. The populace had moved on from the massacre, but Sevrath had not. Despite no longer retaining any credibility as a scientist, he continued what research he could, convinced that in the Arkanian's quest for perfection they had lost something important, something every sentient being should have. Still, despite his work he could not make any progress. Near his breaking point, he was visited by a strange woman. This woman, calling herself Serifa Altunen, told him the knowledge he sought could not be found on Arkania. She offered to help him gain the skills to find the secret. She trained him how to focus his mind, to turn his gifts to diagnose illness into the ability to heal or cause them. Then, she sent him offworld, giving him one last gift: a metal box, which she instructed him not to open "until the time was right."

Sevrath traveled to several worlds before entering the bowels of Nar Shadaa. He searched for the most unrefined specimens, in the situations where their most base instincts shine through. Soon he came to Zero the Hutt, known for his brutal Gladiatorial games. Explaining his plight, and offering his services as a physician, he was quickly accepted into the organization. He would serve as physician, and fight in the arena, and in return he would be allowed to study the fellow gladiators and have access to whatever research facilities owned by the Hutt.

Motivation

Science and Reason: The only thing that grounds Arjun after what he has lost is the solace of Scientific Logic. He must find reasonable explanations to the mysteries he discovers. However, in these times it seems for every mystery solved two more form.

Morality

Ambition: Sevrath is determined to save his people by discovering the vital missing piece of Arkanian genetic manipulation that has led them to their current state.

Greed: Nothing will stand in the way of Sevrath's crusade. He will be successful no matter the cost. He will do anything to learn the truth of the Arkanian's failings.

Obligation: Disgraced (10). Arjun has no life on Arkania any longer. Being stripped of one's medical credentials is a fate worse than death for most Arkanians, and he will always be treated as an outcast, the unwanted, by those who know of it.
