Background
Shiya's parents are farmers—they practice the Resol'nare and are combat trained, but they are no soldiers. Shiya was a bright, intelligent child, and her keen mind drew the attention of the clan's forgemaster, and Shiya became a full apprentice as soon as she was old enough, spending virtually every waking hour in the forgemaster's company. She has committed much of the clan's history and traditions to memory, and is knowledgeable about the construction of armor and armament.
Once Shiya was skilled enough to being independent work, her day-to-day practice shifted to maintaining the clan's spacecraft and heavy weaponry. She has a reputation for parsimony and reliability when it comes to repairs and modifications, often being capable of doing more with less compared to other technicians. Those same parsimonious tendencies, however, mean that she has a tendency to use any new project as an opportunity to experiment, and equipment she builds from scratch has a tendency to be idiosyncratic. This may be why the forgemaster is reluctant to allow her to work with beskar, despite Shiya's extensive study of the theories and techniques involved.
Motivation
Mentor: Shiya has spent most of her life learning the ways of the Ori'goran from Dros Bahva. More than just being a student, she cares for the man like a father, wants to prove herself worthy of the time and instruction he's spent on her, and looks out for his well-being.
Obligations
Family (10). Shiya's biological parents are farmers on Rannon, and while they supported her in training with the forgemaster, she is keenly aware that her decision has left them short-handed and led to difficulties maintaining the farm. Her worries about their welfare can distract her at inconvenient times, especially when she's off-planet, and she's often on the lookout for labor-saving devices and engineering solutions to make up for her absence.
