Background
The galaxy is a lawless place where trustworthy characters are few and far between. However, making one has proven more reliable and consistent. Tempo was originally contracted for construction by a Mandalorian mercenary who had been crossed one too many times. A Mandalorian mechanic named Gavin Tarmin, owner of GavTar droid shop, was hired to construct a droid that would specialize where the mercenary lacked. Gavin took parts from many different droids so that his creation would excel at stealth and infiltration.
Upon creation, during the programming phase, the droid was given limited freedom of thought to allow independent and swift decision making. Due to a combination of programming, the droid developed a consciousness relatively quickly and showed a natural fancy for music. Listening to it intently and during any free time available; naturally Gavin dubbed it T18-Tempo.
It wasn’t long before it was fully operational and working side by side with the mercenary, taking jobs ranging from protection to assassination. After numerous missions and a vast range of injuries, Tempo’s chassis and processor were critically damaged on one mission requiring drastic repair. The mercenary being unable to return Tempo to GavTar had no choice but to attempt to transfer the droids consciousness, memories, and abilities to a suitable replacement. Having completed the last portion to his mission, he scavenged the remains of a BCA BX-series commando droid that would be a perfect replacement given its skill set coinciding with Tempo’s already existing specialities.
After the transfer, Tempo unintentionally now had full freedom and no obligation to follow the directives in its programming. Regardless, Tempo saw its friendship with the mercenary as its new calling and chose, of its own free will, to assist and continue as they had been for the past years.
