Kalu was in training to be a doctor on his homeworld of Mon Cala. During his training, he was stationed on a refugee ship, where he saw first-hand the destructiveness of the Empire. When the ship was detained by the Imperial Fleet for providing imagined aide to the Rebellion (a pretext for the impound of the ship and enslavement of the occupants), Kalu thought his life was over. When a small rebel strike team liberated the prison ship he was being transported on, he felt he had to stake his claim with the Rebellion in order to help those most helpless in these dark times.

Kalu is a larger than average Mon Calamari, with Brown skin and Green eyes. He is very intelligent, but displays the naivete which his species is known for. He is generally soft-spoken, and takes his oath to harm no others very seriously. He will use stun settings whenever possible, and will only use lethal force in extreme circumstances to protect himself or others.
