Background

Background:

Jondhar was born into slavery to the Hutts, just as all Nikto are, on their homeworld, Kintan. Although it was all he had ever known, Jondhar felt inside himself that something was fundamentally wrong and evil with the concept of slavery; of one sentient owning and disposing of another sentient however it so pleased. Jondhar experienced this sharply, when he was eventually torn from his homeworld and sent into bondage.

Upon reaching maturity, Jondhar entered service with Teemo the Hutt, in small city of Mos Shuuta, on Tatooine. His relatively strong stature made him a suitable choice as a guard in Teemo's own entourage. He found he also had some skill with mechanical and armory equipment, and was often assigned to the repair shop when there was less need for guard detail.

Introduction to the Force:

One fateful day, a newly captured young Twi'lek slave girl was brought before Teemo for inspection. Jondhar could see the fire in her eyes, however, and when she was forced close to Teemo's slithering tongue, she rebelliously cried out in anger and spat on him. Infuriated, the vile Teemo immediately ordered Jondhar to take her head off right then and there. The girl was forced to her knees, and Jondhar, having never before been called upon to murder a child in cold blood, reluctantly stepped up to her. With his arm trembling, he brought his vibrosword slowly to bear on her neck, assessing the frailest part to strike. After a long pause, Jondhar could not bring himself to execute the innocent slave. He lowered his sword, thus refusing the order.

Jondhar was roughly dragged and thrown into a prison cell, which he shared with an ancient and wizened Gran, who wore only a tattered robe.

Over the next several months, Jondhar was used as entertainment in the fighting pits. His considerable brawn and sharp intellect helped keep him alive, while providing amusement to Teemo and his patrons. The Gran, who never identified himself, would tend to Jondhar's wounds after each match, quickly restoring his body.

The Gran also would be taken from the cell from time to time, to be used as torture entertainment for Teemo. Jondhar could not understand how the elderly Gran was able to routinely survive the horrors of Teemo's torture chamber.

In between fights and torture, the Gran (who Jondhar began to refer to simply as "Teacher") would instruct him about Galactic history, including the events of the Clone Wars leading up to the formation of the Galatic Empire. The Teacher taught Jondhar about the ancient order of the Jedi, which collapsed and was seemingly eradicated when the Empire rose. He learned how the Jedi's mission had been one of self-sacrifice to protect the Republic, its people, and the ideals it was founded on. Jondhar was enthralled by this concept, that there had once been an entire organization of powerful, yet wise, warriors who gave their lives to protect those weaker than themselves. Jondhar hungered to learn more.

It was then that the Teacher began to explain to Jondhar about the Force. Jondhar learned how to meditate, to look inward, and to feel the Force's guidance. It was so difficult. His thoughts so distracted: by pain and anger; the desire to free the slaves from the oppression of the Hutts; the desire to be free himself, and not a piece of meat to be used by the Hutts as a butcher's cleaver. He could feel the pain around him, too, he discovered, and to his surprise he could sometimes even discern glimpses of another being's thoughts and feelings.

Escape:

One day, Jondhar was dragged from his cell and brought to kneel in chains before Teemo. To his side, he saw the same Twi'lek girl he had spared months ago, also kneeling in chains. Teemo offered Jondhar a choice: death, or complete the order to execute the girl and then resume service in Teemo's palace. Again, Jondhar refused. Angrily, Teemo declared that if Jondhar loves the Twi'lek insect so much, then he will enjoy spending 1,000 years with her, digesting in the pit of a Sarlaac! Their combined execution was scheduled for the following day, and Jondhar was tortured and locked back in his cell.

Upon hearing of Jondhar's impending fate, the Teacher revealed to him that he had been keeping himself alive for years as Teemo's prisoner, so that he could subtley aid the slaves imprisoned there and even enable some to escape. He accepted the torture as his own personal punishment, though for what, he did not say. He told Jondhar that the he and the Twi'lek girl would be presented with an opportunity for escape, and that they must take advantage of it. The Teacher said that Jondhar would likely witness some strange inexplicable things, but that he must trust in the Force and escape. Jondhar vowed he would also rescue the Teacher, but the old Gran just smiled and said his place would remain at Teemo's, aiding those less fortunate and in need. The Teacher said that his last instruction to Jondhar was to search the Galaxy and learn more about the Jedi and the Force, but to stay hidden from the Empire as such knowledge was forbidden.

It was a daring escape, and Jondhar could not fully comprehend how it transpired. He and the Twi'lek girl, Marlah, were separated in the chaos, however, and he never saw her again. Jondhar managed to steal a few supplies during his escape, and boarded a tramp freighter off of Tatooine. Several hyperspace jumps, station hops, stowaways, and close scrapes later, Jondhar found himself trying to make a new life for himself on a distant, uninhabited planet, far away from the evil depradations of the Hutts and the Empire that sheltered them.

Motivation

Fugitive / Escape from Slavery to the Hutts

OBLIGATION (10): Bounty

Jondhar is essentially exiled from Imperial space. Any world in the Core, Outer Rim, or Inner Rim is now too dangerous. His defiance and subsequent escape from the Hutts has put a price on his head. He seeks a new, fresh start, far from Imperial control and Hutt influence. A new life that can, hopefully, afford him the opportunity for introspection and meditation, so that he can further explore the lessons his teacher gave him on the Force.

Morality

Morality: 50

Bravery: Jondhar has had to face the nightmares of Hutt servitude, gladitorial combat, and sadistic torture. He defied his Hutt crime lord master, despite the very real threat of imminent death, to spare the life of an innocent. And Jondhar would do it again.

Anger: Not in control of his destiny, having no freedom, and chafing under the bonds of slavery, Jondhar cannot tolerate slavery in any form. His tendencies toward anger found an outlet as a Hutt enforcer, and later in the fighting pits, but it can cause him to make rash decisions, when a cooler head does not prevail.

Description

Tall and burly, yet all lean muscle with no fat. Nikto do not have many facial muscles, and so cannot affect many expressions typical for most sentient species, and their eyes tend not to blink, due their protective covers. Therefore, they are often underestimated as being of low intelligence.

Other Notes

Kadas'sa'Nikto, or "Green Nikto," originated in the milder climatic regions of Kintan, such as the forests and the seacoasts. Their scaly faces had small facial horns surrounding the eyes and on the chin. Their main distinguishing feature was the long climbing claws on their hands, which could also be used in combat.
