Background

Tycho is well-used to piloting freighters in the mid-rim. Being a contracted pilot by a major shipping conglomerate means that you don't get to own your own ship. You have to take whatever the higher-ups authorize. Usually cheap junk. Most recently it was a special line of Spacemasters that had no shields, weak armor, and a single ion cannon - everything was committed to maximizing cargo capacity. But they still expect you to make deadlines, avoid pirates, and deliver the goods intact. That means you are gonna have to maintain your ship at a pretty high level. Tycho is versed in the hyperlanes of the mid-rim and expansion region, and has even made the trek out to the Outer Rim on several occasions. His employer, Mondo Shipping, has been pushing its pilots to increase routes and improve territory, so he has been working the full length of the Hydian Way more recently, taking him to the Outer Rim more frequently than ever before.

Tycho's not much of a charmer, but he knows that you have to grease the right palms to get where you need to go sometimes.

Recently, Tycho ran into trouble with a shipment of medical supplies and re-breathers that was intended for a smaller settlement on Ladarra, in the Gordian Reach. Upon arriving in the Ladarra System, he received word from his supervisor that he should dump his cargo as an Imperial embargo had just been issued on the settlement, banning all deliveries. Tycho was going to be out a paycheck, and the supplies wouldn't get delivered. Knowing he couldn't afford the fuel costs and realizing that his cargo was essentially humanitarian supplies, he messaged his supervisor at Mondo Shipping and told him that he was going in anyways. He'd done this before from time to time, and was confident he could slip in and out without causing too much trouble. And even if he got caught, the Empire couldn't possibly take issue with a medical delivery, even in spite of the delivery ban. The worst case scenario would be no worse than dumping his cargo.

Tycho slipped through the patrols with relative ease and found his buyer. But Tycho didn't count on his company selling him out. When he tried to lift off, a security squad stopped him. They had been informed by Mondo Shipping that a pilot had entered unlawfully. They impounded his ship and stripped him of every last credit. A few minutes letter, he received confirmation from Mondo Shipping that he had been let go. At a loss for words, Tycho found himself stuck in New Hope Settlement with no ship, no credits, and few prospects.

Fortunately, one of his union buddies had a lead for him. The private cargo hauler "Stardancer" was looking for a new co-pilot and astrogator. The Stardancer tended to work the less-traveled routes of the Gordian Reach, and was making a stop on Ladarra, outside of the embargoed region. The captain, an aged Twi'lek, was eager to get off world quick when he heard about the Imperial presence, so he hired Tycho without giving it a second thought.

A few weeks later, Tycho's luck turned from bad to worse when he discovered that his captain was secretly delivering supplies on behalf of the Rebel Alliance. Unfortunately, he did not find this out until after the Stardancer had already been boarded by Imperial Sector Authorities. Neither the arresting Stormtroopers, nor their commanding officer cared that Tycho hadn't the faintest idea who his employer was working for. Seeing little need to abide by the official Imperial protocol, the officer shipped Tycho off to Resettlement Zone 1047 on Torque to engage in hard labor for the Imperial war machine.

Tycho now works as a mechanic fixing the industrial machinery. Although every day he toils for the Empire, he spends his evenings plotting for a way out of the settlement and out of the Empire's clutches. He has already stolen a handful of parts from the vehicles he works on to construct a homemade slugthrower that he can pull out if push comes to shove. He also has his eye out for a vehicle that could make it at least to the capital city, if not off world.

Tycho was pleasantly - or maybe unpleasantly - surprised when a few months later a Twi'lek was dropped off in the camp. He immediately recognized the Stardancer captain's daughter, Ella'asaren. Ella, as she was called by the crew, was quite the negotiator on her father's behalf. She had a way of making anyone feel like they were the star of the show. But when Tycho went to greet her, he was rebuffed. "Traitor!" she had called him. "Imperial scum! You killed my father, you kriffin' Sullustan!" Tycho was miffed, but he got the message. He steered clear of of Ella for the next few weeks.

Tycho had taken to Mecha-racing in the colony. It was one of the few joys that the overseers didn't - or couldn't - stop. The mechanics had modded out some of the industrial walkers to serve as racers. They were much slower than a pod or a swoop, but were much more difficult to control. The more daring settlers would race them in the outskirts. They didn't handle well, but Tycho had begun to enjoy working on them, and loved the thrill of racing them. With the help of a Chadra-Fan engineer, he had even constructed a half-decent skid-steer that took two pilots to operate properly. He had invited a new inmate - a human named Div - to operate the steering while he manned the legs. The two had won a handful of races and were beginning to make a name for themselves around the campaign. Tycho was sure that they could beat the local competition if he could just fine-tune the accelerator. It really was holding them back.

One day, when he was rigged up under the most recent iteration of their mecha walker, he heard somebody come into the shop. She asked for a recoupler, which he was pretty sure he could track down. It wasn't until he slid out from under the walker that he realized it was Ella. "I'm sorry," she said. "It couldn't have been you. I mean, they wouldn't have locked you up, right?"

The Twi'lek explained to Tycho that the raid hadn't been bad luck. It couldn't have been. The Stardancer had a traitor. But it wasn't Tycho, and it wasn't Ella. Tycho swore to the Twi'lek that he would do everything in his power to track down the traitor, wherever he or she was.

Motivation

Adrenaline Rush - Tycho is a daring pilot and enjoys pushing himself and his ships to their limits. He loves to tinker with his ships to be sure that they can perform to the max, and he is generally good about covering up his work in case his company inspects anything.

Obligations

Responsibility (9) - duty owed to current and former pilots at Mondo Shipping, as well as in the wider Mid-Rim Shippers Union. Tycho owes favors to a lot of guys in the union. Most recently, he owes a big favor to Reom, who has managed to track down a freighter for him.

Tycho's connections might sometimes pay off, for example if he needs a ride across the galaxy or needs to slip one or two extra packages abroad one of his buddies' ships. More often than not, however, he would need to help them out of a tight spot instead.

Recruiting (Duty): 25. Tycho has allowed a number of useful individuals to discover and enlist in the rebel alliance.

Description

Tycho is usually mild-mannered, but will stick up for what he believes is right. He isn't driven by high-living, but he will be credit-driven as he recognizes how necessary credits are to keeping your ship running. He has straight-edge contacts from his union, but - having lost his ship and his job - is willing to associate with just about anybody who will pay his bills.

Height 5'6"
Skinny build. Tall (for a Sullustan).
Attire: Official issue flight suit (cargo clothes). Boots and a utility belt.
These days, Tycho doesn't tend to carry anything with him other than the tools he needs for a particular job. He tends to be covered in engine grease. He doesn't carry a weapon, but he recently constructed a slugthrower in case of an escape from the relocation camp, which he keeps hidden in the workshop.
