Background

Neville Newton is somewhat of an eccentric man. He has an intense fascination with the process of life and death and spends more time than most beings consider healthy studying the various ways in which different cultures handle both. Such an obsession would likely have prevented him from being promoted or even having a real career if it weren't for the fact that Neville may be one of the most brilliant minds in xenobiology and genetics.

Neville is from Chandrila, born to a family of moderate wealth that indulged his obsessions, to the annoyance of his brother and sister. As a child Neville traveled the galaxy studying various death rituals and rites. If left on his own Neville would have likely lost himself to archaeological digs as he tried to piece together why various humanoid species went extent throughout galactic history.

Neville's brilliance was his saving grace though. His parents enrolled him in the prestigious Chandrilan Academy of Sciences where he excelled in the fields of biology, xenobiology, and genetics. Neville's insights into genetics even granted him the chance to study for a term on Kamino. Graduating early, Neville was swiftly recruited into the imperial navy. His knowledge of genetics and xenobiology was unparalleled.

For the most part, Neville has enjoyed his experience in the imperial navy. His research had few, if any, restrictions and he was free to choose his methods as he deemed fit. Neville recognized that many of his methods and interest may not be pursuable outside of the Empire. He certainly wouldn't have been granted this much freedom on Chandrilan had he taken a position within the Ministry of Science. There is a certain amount of flexibility when not having to report to an ethics board.

After the Emperor was killed at the Battle of Endor, Neville continued his research within the empire. He was less concerned with the political situation that enveloped the galaxy. The galactic Civil War took a back seat to his understanding of the essence of life and death. It mattered little who was in charge, so long as he could continue his work. It was for that reason that he continued his work as various emperors and admirals vied for power in what remained of the empire.

Neville was serving on a ship called the Kuma when it defected to the Galactic Alliance. His research was turned over to them and after much debate, Neville was allowed to become a member of the Republic navy as researcher and medical officer. Neville has been serving on Home One for seven years. The first two years he was there he was brought in as second in command of the medical division, serving under the current ships surgeon Dr. Adile. Dr. Adile saw great potential in Neville, and felt that under a little more guidance he would make an exemplary doctor and scientist for the Republic. Dr. Adile was killed two years later during a battle with Imperial forces, leaving Neville to step up and fill his mentor's role as chief medical officer of Home One.

Of late Neville has been exploring his growing connection with the Force. He has kept it a secret as he is not sure what would be done with him if it were known. His study of the Force has only enhanced his understanding of life and death. He is certain that there is a middle ground, between science and mysticism of the Force that will give him a breakthrough on the tenuous connection between life and death and how to overcome or better yet, control the energies that create life and then end it.

Motivation

Knowledge - With a galaxy full of so many secrets, the character knows that the pursuit of knowledge can never be ended. The more that others try to suppress information, the greater the eagerness to uncover.

Neville seeks knowledge of life and death. He wants to unlock the secrets of both and he feels that he is close to finding a link that will allow him to transcend both.

Obligation: Obsession - Death research

Morality

Strength - Curiosity: The character is driven to learn new things, to seek out and discover new information, and to expand his knowledge and understanding of those things that interest him.

Neville's curiosity manifest most prominently on his study of life and death lores and rituals.

Weakness - Obsession: Sometimes, interest in something can turn to obsession if not tempered with reason. The character can slip into an obsessive state about his need to discover information, accomplish a goal, or even defeat a rival and he may ignore all else until sucess is his.
