One of the last R2 units to be produced before the mass production of the R3 unit by the Industrial Automation co. R2-K9 was bought by the Black Suns to be upgraded as an infiltration droid. With over 100 successful missions under K9's belt, they sent him to an imperial outpost on the planet Lotide to gather as much information on the empire as possible. However, K9 was found out before he could escape the premises and was damaged severely during his escape. To save his intel and himself, he set his self-repair to maximum and turned himself off to save power. After a bad night of gambling, a lone smuggler found K9 deactivated and decided to take the piece of scrap as extra betting for future endeavors. As the droid leaves the planet, his programming erasing all of the dealings with the Black Suns and any information on them to keep them safe from both the rebels and the empire.
