Background
One of the last R2 units to be produced before the mass production of the R3 unit by the Industrial Automation, R2-RK9 was first purchased by the Black Suns and upgraded to be an infiltration droid. With a total of 105 successful missions on it's belt, they sent K9 to an imperial outpost on the planet Lotide to gather as much information on the empire as possible. It didn't go so well, so much so, that K9 was Damaged severely in his escape. To save himself and his intel, he shut himself down and set the self-repair protocol on maximum to keep the intel safe and secure. In doing so, he was picked up by a smuggler as extra credits for his gambling. Now as the droid goes through space, he loses his status as a member of the black suns, and becomes one of the rebellion.
