Background

The boy that would become known as Orlev Nur was born on Devaron years before the outbreak of the Clone Wars. He had no real name, only going by the adopted epithet of 'Levor.' His earliest years were spent as an impoverished street urchin, as he had no family to speak of. During this time, he was prone to theft and trickery in order to survive, unknowingly using the Force to augment his attempts; these formative experiences taught 'Levor' the value of cunning, a lesson that he would carry with him for the rest of his life. Everything would soon change for the boy, though, as when he was around the age of six, he encountered a Bothan Jedi Master named Akari Naeth while trying to pickpocket his lightsaber using a crude Force Pull. The Bothan was a charismatic and clever fellow, and took a liking to 'Levor,' despite his ruggedness, and offered to bring him back to the Jedi Temple in order to train him. 'Levor' jumped at the chance, and was soon inducted into the Jedi Order, in spite of some reservations among the Council about his age. As Orlev grew older and advanced in the Jedi Order, he was noted by the other Jedi for his shrewdness and ability to solve problems even without the help of the Force. In fact, there was even an apocryphal tale told among Jedi students about how he was able to gain access to the Jedi Archives' most secretive areas mere months after being brought to the Temple. Thus, as he progressed to Padawan status, he was assigned again to Akari Naeth, who also happened to work as a Jedi Sentinel, a more rough and grounded sort of Jedi that usually operated in seedy areas. During his time as student to Master Naeth, Orlev learned how to navigate the dangerous streets of crime-infested planets and the importance of discreetness, while also growing close to his Master. However, the young Devaronian also began to question some aspects of Jedi ideology, and believed a more pragmatic approach might be more effective. Despite this, Orlev advanced to become Jedi Knight and he was assigned to be a Jedi Sentinel as well. During his tenure as a Sentinel, he became close friends with another Knight, a female Noghri named Khiran. They would often work together on missions to 'root out Dark side influence,' which was more often than not criminal activity.

The man who would be known as Orlev Nur would not remain in that position forever, as his underlying misgivings about the Jedi Order were brought to a boiling point with the onset of the Clone Wars. He and his former Master, Akari Naeth, were called to Geonosis on what they thought would be a standard, if large-scale, operation to rescue prisoners. In reality, it was a bloodbath. The two fought valiantly against the endless tide of droids, but Naeth was eventually overwhelmed by enemy fire and was cut down, becoming one of the many Jedi casualties. Following the battle, the Devaronian Knight grew bitter towards the Order, and especially the Council, and thusly refused to heed the call to arms issued to him to take part in the Clone Wars. Khiran was sent to try and reconcile with him, but he had already made up his mind, and rebuffed her, saying that they were naïve fools for getting involved with something so monumentally destructive, yet something they did not fully understand.

Over the next few years, the Devaronian Knight continued to operate as a Jedi Sentinel, though under this own authority. In particular, he was prone to activity on Nar Shaddaa, due to its nature as a hub of crime. During this time, he adopted the name 'Orlev Nur' in order to further distance himself from the Jedi Order. As he continued his work, he somewhat drifted from Jedi ideology, finding it to be too restrictive and not conducive to life among more normal people.

Then, the unimaginable happened - Order 66. As it occurred across the galaxy, Orlev felt like he was being tortured, almost as if the Force itself was crying out in pain; he knew something was deeply wrong, something tied to his former brethren. However, he did nothing, whether out of cowardice, spite, or some indescribable combination of them, he stood idly, simply growing further detached from his Jedi roots on Nar Shaddaa. The rise of the Empire only further drove him into assimilating with the criminals he mingled with, with Orlev justifying it as a way to evade capture. His dedication to Jedi ideals almost completely eroded, a fact symbolized by the decay of his lightsaber. At this point, he is almost completely indistinguishable from any other ne'er-do-well, apart from those rare instances where, if one is perceptive enough, you can detect the slight motion of his hand, using an invisible power to finagle a lock or guide a pair of dice.

Motivation

Conflict - Guilt:
Though Orlev would never admit it to anyone, he feels great guilt for not being able to save or even help his fellow Jedi during Order 66, and for what he has become.

Morality

Strength - Cleverness:
Orlev is a very cunning and quick-thinking individual, being able to navigate most situations with relative ease.

Weakness - Weariness:
Orlev has grown very detached from life due to his overwhelming guilt and loneliness, a fact demonstrated by his almost death wish levels of risk-taking.

Description

Orlev is a relatively tall Devaronian, standing at 6 feet, and is lean and fit due to his years as a Jedi. Additionally, Orlev possesses rugged red skin and deep, murky purple eyes. Being a Devaronian, Orlev has horns which are long and somewhat curved back, allowing for them to fit under his hood easily. He wears a large black-brown cloak that essentially covers him head to toe. The robes are obviously worn, and have been somewhat modified with stylistic markings and add-ons like stitched-in pockets. Orlev can often been seen with its sleeves rolled up and his hands shoved into its pockets.

He is somewhat rough around the edges, typical of someone who surrounds himself with criminals. He often cracks jokes at other's expense, and can be a bit rude to strangers. However, deep down, he still holds the same compassion that he did as a Jedi, he only conceals it through gruffness.

Other Notes

Basically, he's a Ben Kenobi-type, only rather than being a hermit, he's a criminal.
