Jakara left the slavery under the Hutts as a teenager and has been trying to escape them ever since. He has been captured a few times, but has always somehow managed to escape. He has since donned a mask making him resemble a human face, which lets him get away from trouble more easily as he wants to retain his freedom.

His goal now is to keep living and die among the stars, living a life of adventure and not one of slavery.

A long time ago, he had hoped he could gain the power and
influence to help liberate his clan, but he gave up on that long ago.
Now he tries to deliver those who are still in servitude and do what
he can against slavery.

He dreads and hopes seeing his one-time wife and child whom he
left long ago. He also sometimes sends back some anonymous
credits in the hopes that it will help them live better, but is it only to
help his guilt?
