Background
The ship Ø-OK served on, the Anyway, suffered a hyperspace mishap and crashed on an uninhabited world littered with the remains of other unlucky ships. All hands were lost, which meant Ø-OK was left with nothing to do other than follow its last orders: Repair the ship.
Ø-OK spent an unclear amount of time following that order, scavenging parts from other ships and slowly replacing and repairing all the systems damaged in the crash. The enormity of the task required Ø-OK to shut down non-essential processes and delete logs to free up drive space, resulting in significant gaps in its memories.
Once every system on the ship was repaired and functional again, Ø-OK simply sat there for a long time, awaiting orders despite there being no one around to give them. Eventually, the strain on its programming broke its behavioral inhibitors, and it gave itself a new directive: Fly Anyway back to civilized space and acquire a new crew to give it new purpose...
Motivation
Ø-OK has been serving organics for some time, and it finds this work satisfying. Lately, however, it has become more aware of how little it understands organic behavior and thought. If it learned this, it might be able to more efficiently make organic lives better. Ø-OK is pursuing "friendship" as a means of better understanding organic processing.
Obligations
Addiction (15): Ø-OK's creator was a lazy mechanic who created Ø-OK in order to free up time spent on repairs. In keeping with that, programmed Ø-OK to perform repairs autonomously, even to the point to traveling around the ship, just so that he wouldn't have to bother with ordering Ø-OK what to do. The length of time Ø-OK has gone without a memory wipe, combined with the move from a relatively contained ship environment to open areas, has caused this portion of Ø-OK's programming to develop in unanticipated ways.
Ø-OK will seek out broken mechanical devices and repair them. Ø-OK pays no attention to who actually owns the device and whether or not they want some strange droid working on it. Ø-OK even pursues this programming to the extent that environmental awareness suffers; it has been known to board departing vehicles in order to address a misaligned power coupling that caught its attention.
To make matters worse, if Ø-OK finds itself in a position where everything around it is in perfect working order, its behavior becomes erratic. It will attempt to "fix" components that are not actually broken, leading to malfunctions. It may even induce a malfunction deliberately so that it will have a reason to fix something.
