Background
Mal Jarson, like many Gotal's of his age, doesn't have any living memory of the home-world of his people, Antar 4. In fact, some of his earliest impressions involve the mass exodus of the Gotal people from Antar 4 to Azterri in the early days of the Clone Wars. The fear, suffering, and despair of a displaced people shaped the early memory and foundation of character for Mal like so many others.
Perhaps inevitable, a deep seated mistrust of centralized authority pushed Mal to the fringe of civilized society on Atzerri during adolescence. The CIS was to be hated, for occupying the home-world. The Republic, and eventually the Empire, was equally mistrusted for failing to protect the same. What better way to exact some small measure of recompense than to apply ones skills with the criminal underbelly that sought to flout the government authority. Credits and comfort were available to those with a movable moral compass along with skill with a blaster; two traits Mal Jarsom possessed in abundance.
Mal's early criminal career saw him earn a reputation among the underworld of Azterri as a fairly decent pickpocket and thief. After surviving a beating at the hands a rival street gang Mal was taken in by a crew running illicit cargo on and around Atzerri. For many years, fortune and freedom were the winds that drove Mal Jarsom through the seedier elements of the galactic underworld.
Motivation
Ambition - Freedom - Mal Jarsom mistrusts government authority. Mal will take any opportunity to skirt and break the law when possible even when it isn't inherently required. Mal believes that those that sacrifice personal liberty for the sake of civilized society are no better than domesticated servants to the system, and treats them with a barely contained contempt.
Obligations
Notoriety - 10 - Life was comfortable and offered just the right amount of challenge and excitement for Mal. That is until the perils of the criminal life came to a sudden and clear focus for him on Nothsa. After dropping his illicit cargo to his contacts, Mal was picked up by the local authorities and accused of crimes which he surprisingly, had not committed! Though he was able to beat the charges, similar misunderstandings have continued to plague Mal across multiple planets. Word of these official entanglements have reached to the various contacts and officials who normally employ Mal, giving them pause. While Mal's reputation may be gaining a boost, his ability to fly under the radar is suffering; and regrettably, his ability to find work.
