Background
Disgraced
Do not get in a fight with the favored son of your clan's leader. That's the lesson to be learned here. Even if the little snot makes aggressive moves on your girlfriend. But how could Devahn brook that insult? Honor demanded he respond, once that punk laid a hand on Lateen. She was smart enough to avoid physical confrontation, but the verbal assault of her insults had cut that pompous Aerath to the core, and he had struck her, knocking her to the ground. Devahn's counterpunch came as a reflex, he didn't even realize he had struck Aerath. But there the man was, holding his hands to his bleeding nose, stumbling off to cry to his daddy, the clan leader.
It turns out that conniving bastard had planned the whole thing, anticipating Devahn's retaliation. Aerath had concealed recording devices and bribed witnesses, and then tailored the evidence to show Devahn seemingly striking him unprovoked. Aerath even found a way to blackmail Lateen, by threatening her family, which prevented her from coming to Devahn's defense.
Devahn was summoned to the throne room of the clan's leader to face punishment. Next to the throne stood Aerath; smugly confident and supremely arrogant. The judgement passed was harsh: either surrender his armor (his family's heritage and his birthright!) and title of warrior, or leave Mandalore and never return. How could such a thing be asked of any Mandalorian? If he gave up his title and birthright, he would lose all standing among the Mandalorians and be little more than a peasant - a squattor on a noble's land. He would have nothing to offer Lateen, and it would dishonor her and her family to be associated with her. But if he left Mandalore, he would likely never see her again. Either way, Aerath gets his way.
And so, Devahn chose to leave, his honor intact, with the hope that someday he would be able to reunite with Lateen. If not on their homeworld, then perhaps elsewhere in the galaxy.
Motivation
Now adrift, how to make a living in a heartless, amoral galaxy? It will care little if Devahn thrives or shrivels in a sewer. Well, it turns out there are people willing to pay for jobs, and those jobs often involve hunting down other people. Usually, they deserve it, but what does Devahn care? The Mandalorian code is survival of the strongest, so if those people allow themselves to be caught by Devahn, then it's the natural order of things. Besides, if he's going to find a way to find his way back to Lateen's arms, it's going to take a lot of hard credits.
