Background

Born to a farming family on the planet Zaller, Zaclane was spent his early childhood tending to farms for his alcoholic father who didn't treat him well. The Clone Wars eventually brought war to his planet, and his farm was razed and abandoned, and in this time he escaped the clutches of his father and found a Zabrak Bounty Hunter, Maric, who took him in.

Maric became his father figure teaching him the ways of life, bounty hunting, and combat, including basics of Teras Kasi. He was a follower of the Yinchorri religion, a spiritual religion that believes in a spirit realm and other myths. Maric was successful in transplanting his beliefs into the moldable Zaclane, who adopted these beliefs as his own.

In their bounty hunting work, they only took contracts to take down those that their religion deemed as spiritual defilers, people who were killing innocent people, disrupting nature, or doing other things to disrupt the spirits. They never accepted bounty hunting contracts for petty material things such as for those who didn't pay debts.

At around age 23, Maric told Zaclane it was time for him to find his own spiritual path and that he must learn how to operate in the galaxy alone, leaving him some resources and supplies, and departed. Zaclane continued his bounty hunter work and spiritual discovery on his own, struggling a little to find the same success, but eventually doing it. On this path though, he made two critical errors in his bounty hunter work... mistaking his target from a long distance kill and killing an innocent man as well as hurting a child in collateral damage chasing another target. In his spiritual journey, he realized that from now on, he would take on his targets via hand to hand combat, disavowing modern weapons, and personalizing his spiritual cleansing as well as limiting the amount of innocent lives being endangered by his actions.

He got involved with the Rebels a few years later. In a bounty contract on his home world, he discovered a nephew he wasn't aware existed. His parents had recently died and he was set to fall under Zaclane's parents' custody. Zaclane had not spoken to his parents due to the resentment he felt from his childhood, and decided his nephew shouldn't face what he had to face. Zaclane, believing the spirits supported him, and that he was doing the right thing, took his nephew under his custody and fled the system, never returning again. Fortunately, he struck a bond with his nephew, and enjoyed the parent relationship he had with him. He found a small apartment on the planet Chandrila and kept his nephew there while continuing his work in a reduced scale. During their life there, a small rebel cell was discovered near their home, unknown to Zaclane’s knowledge. In typical Empire doctrine, they swept in to eradicate it, dropping bombs on the town, ending the rebels, but killing many innocents and disrupting the nearby forest. Heartbroken, Zaclane realized what the true spiritual enemy was, and his final path to spiritual enlightenment: ending the Empire, the terror of the spirit realm.
