Background

TLDR:
- part of a space travelling Jawa clan of scavengers and salvagers
- the Empire interrupted his clan's illegal salvage operation
- was forced to work as a part of the Imperial maintenance and sanitation crew on several Imperial installations
- was freed during the Rebel raid on Lantilles

--------------------------------------------------

Klinks was born and raised as a child of the K'Tec Jawas, a Jawa clan that travelled the hyperlanes in the search for salvage and business. His childhood home was the Beneficial Proposal, a salvage ship made out of the parts of different scrapped starships and freighters that moved from one debris field made out of the remains of a long forgotten battle to the next. Klinks even picked up a halfway passable version of Galactic Basic while bartering with merchants and freighter captains on various space stations.

Unfortunately, his species's rather loose attitude towards laws and regulations clashed with the ever expanding reach of the Empire and the Beneficial Proposal with its squadron of small salvage ships soon found itself on the receiving end of an Imperial turbolaser salvo after one illegal salvage operation too many. Klinks and several other clan members were captured by an Imperial boarding crew and he could only watch through the boarding shuttle's transparisteel windows as the Beneficial Proposal broke apart and several of the smaller salvage ships jumped to lightspeed. For his part in his clan's illegal businesses, Resistance against the Empire and various other crimes, Klinks was sentenced to 17 years of forced labor. The trial was the last time he saw another member of his clan.

During the next 5 years, Klinks served as a member of the Imperial maintenance and sanitation crew on several Imperial ships, bases and installations in the Lantilles sector. Due to his small size (very helpful for repairing air ducts and inspecting discharge pipes) and his species's reputation as able repairpersons in a low resources environment (especially considering the fact that in the Imperial bureaucracy, a crate of replacement blaster rifles was only a call away but official spare parts for the caf dispenser could take months to arrive) Klinks gained access to a surprising number of secured areas and rooms. The work was hard, unpleasant, long and spiced with draconic punishments for the smallest infractions or random mood swings of Klinks's overseer.

Only a few days ago, Klinks managed to escape during a Rebel raid on an Imperial black site prison on Lantilles. He used his chance for freedom and joined the Alliance forces, eager to fight against the oppression and injustice of the Galactic Empire.

Motivation

Relationship: Extended Clan

Klinks wants to use his newly found freedom to search for his family and clan. He knows that some members of the K'Tec clan managed to escape during the Empire's initial attack on the Beneficial Proposal and that others were captured with him but he hasn't seen any other Jawa for five years. He is eager for news. What has happened to his family? Are they still alive? Were the ones escaping the attack captured as well later on or did they remain free? Where are the other captured clan members held? Was anybody killed during the initial attack?

Klinks has vowed to travel the stars far and wide to find the members of his clan and reunite them.

A first hint could be the debris field of the Beneficial Proposal but Klinks didn't manage to get his ship's last coordinates during the attack and so much time has passed since the Imperial raid. But the Empire could still have records of the raid, court documents could be stored somewhere or there could be records or tales of a squadron of small salvage ships limping to a spaceport or space station after the raid.

Duties

Duty 5
RESOURCE ACQUISITION

Gathering salvage, supplies and useful odds and ends could be seen a a species wide compulsive disorder for the Jawas. Klinks is more than willing to help the Alliance with this personality trait, especially in the light of his rather flexible and lax attitudes towards ownership and right of property.

Who can really say that he owns something, after all? One day you hold it, the next one you sell it or cannibalize it for spare parts. Things simply move on and sometimes somebody like Klinks simply has to help them moving, for example from an Imperial overseer's pocket to a pocket in Klinks's coat.

Furthermore, Klinks doesn't think much about personal ownership, for him it's rather black and white: either it belongs to his clan or it doesn't. In absence of his family clan, Klinks considers his new friends of the Alliance Sector Force of the Lantilles sector as his clan.

Description

Height: 95 cm
Weight: 28 kg
Age: 26 standard years

Like all other Jawas, Klinks is wrapped in a hooded coat at all times. Only his hands with almost black skin and dark-grey fur and his glowing red-orange eyes can be seen. Klinks's coat is made out of several grey, Imperial-issued, standard-sized blankets, almost seamlessly sewn together. Parts of a slightly darker imprinted Imperial crest can still be seen on his coat under the right light. An Imperial Navy trooper's gear belt and a Navy engineer's tool belt are slung over his shoulders.
Unlike other Jawas, Klinks does not emit a particular strange odor, as he didn't have access to any of his clan's customary scents and oils during his Imperial captivity.
