Riv grew up on Corellia with his mother. His father had fought for the Republic under Corsec and had helped to defend the system as a pilot and soldier during the Clone Wars until he perished in combat. The only he could leave for his son was his astromech R2-E6 and his sense of daring. When Riv was 8 years old his mother succumbed to sickness and he was left alone. While wandering the streets of Coronet city Riv was discovered by smuggler captain Havin Arellis. Arellis brought the boy into his crew and taught him all that he knew of piloting, fighting, and smuggling. He was part of Arellis' crew for 8 years until he was finally betrayed by his captain and left to die by the hands the Sygathi slavers. He escaped with the help of Essex and managed to flee Nar Shaddaa by stealing a YT-2400. Soon after he met Caput Rubrum who had not had the experience of smuggling, but had the attitude for it, and the luck.

Comrades: Riv's home is the Shadow's Edge and whomever is committed to her benefit is a friend of his. He looks out for his crew and their best interests, as long as they treat the 'Edge' well.

Droid Companion: Riv's constant companion for many years was R2-E6, or Essex. However, a few years ago Essex was lost on a job and finding his old friend has been nagging at Riv's mind.

Betrayal: After years of serving on the crew of Havin Arellis and being treated almost as a son, Riv was made into a scapegoat and left to be captured by the Sygathi, a group of slavers that Arellis had crossed many times over his career. Havin told Riv after giving him a sound beating, leaving his telltale scars, that he had only kept him around long enough to make the Sygathi think that he was someone important, so that by capturing and killing Riv they would be taking something of value from Arellis and give him some space to get back at them. Riv managed to escape with the help of Essex and has harbored his resentment and pain over the years.

Riv is a typical Corellian with dark brown hair and dark hazel eyes. He is taller than average and has a slim athletic build. He is only 23 years old but has been in the smuggling world for most of his life. He has two faint diagonal scars running down the left side of his face, reminders of a past grievance, and not always distinguishable unless seen in the right light.
