In his youth, Hix participated in the sacking of Feros 9, a relatively small but wealthy settlement in the outer rim territories. A large pirate fleet landed and looted the settlement, Hix's group ended up raiding the estate of a rich former Imperial Admiral, killing him and his private security force. Hix found a private hangar bay containing the Admiral's collection of starships, among them was a mint condition late model ARC-170. It was love at first flight and the pirate took the ship as his booty, naming it 'The Cutlass". The ARC-170 became his ship for years, he even converted the floor of the system's officer's station into a bed.
