Background
Cassandra Worner grew up in a family of mechanics on Ord Mantell, and was herself gifted with incredible mechanical aptitude from an early age. Her parents taught her everything they knew, with the intent of letting her inherit the family repair business in Mannet Point once she was old enough.
However, while Cassandra loved her parents, and was alright with the idea of inheriting the shop, part of her craved greater challenge. She quickly outstripped her parents' abilities, and began taking Holonet courses from prestigious technical colleges. She started tinkering with various items in her spare time, both things in the shop and stuff she found around town.
One day, when Cassandra was 15, she was working on a large cluster of unassembled parts, and managed to put them together to form what she would learn was a rather rough blaster pistol. She kept it hidden from her parents, since they never worked with weapons, and would frown upon her for having made one. However, a few days later, she was practicing with it on the shoreline when someone else found her, and expressed interest in the crude weapon. She learned the other person worked for the Hutt Cartels, and was impressed with her work.
The two got to talking, and she mentioned her home situation. The Cartel henchman asked. "If you could get your parents out of the way, would you be able to make more weapons?" She considered it, and decided that yes, making weapons for the Hutt Cartel would be a suitable challenge. After Cassandra said this, the Henchman left, saying to 'leave everything to him'.
Just two days later, her parents died in a 'tragic accident', leaving Cassandra in charge of the shop. She was soon visited by the Cartel Henchman, who revealed that the accident was no accident—as he had promised, her parents were now 'out of the way'. Cassandra was horrified, but given that the henchman wasn't offering her a choice, threatening to 'expose' her to the authorities as being behind the accident if she refused, she followed through on her part of the 'bargain' and began selling weapons to the Hutt Cartels, though she kept the family business running as a 'legitimate cover'. While she realized that the challenges that the Hutt Cartel offered, such as weapons with concealed illegal modifications, or reprogramming droids as assassins, were making her happier than anything she had ever done in the past, things her parents would never have agreed to let her do, she detested the Cartels for the lengths they went to to secure her services. While she would occasionally sell her 'specialty wares' discreetly to common criminals or Black Sun, her primary clients were still the Hutt Cartels, using the threat of 'exposure' to keep her under their thumb. She also built and maintained several droids to help out around the shop.
When she was 18, Imperial Officers came to her shop, bringing equipment for her to repair under the shop's 'official purpose'. When they arrived, though, Cassandra saw an opportunity, and explained to the officers in detail what had happened to her family, and what the Cartels were making her do. She offered to work exclusively for the Empire, in exchange for getting their assistance in bringing down the Hutt who had orchestrated her current situation, and the henchman who had set things in motion.
Not long after, that particular Hutt was killed in an Imperial raid, the henchman who had set up the death of Cassandra's parents was arrested, tried, and executed. The rest of the Cartel declared that Hutt's operations rogue, and washed their hands of any further involvement. Knowing that was likely the best she was going to get, Cassandra was satisfied about justice being dealt, and began working as an Imperial weapons tech.
At first, it seemed to be the perfect arrangement, with Cassandra having access to a lot more resources than she did under the thumb of the Cartels, and plenty more challenges to work with. But as days turned to weeks, weeks to months, and months to years, she began to learn the true face of the Empire, brutally subjugating worlds, slaughtering races, and realized she'd traded one cruel taskmaster for another. And when one of the other techs she was working with voiced their own displeasure, and wanted to quit, they were executed on the spot as a warning to the rest.
And then she heard about the destruction of Alderaan. At that point, Cassandra had had enough - if the Empire was going to use something like that to destroy entire planets, she couldn't work for them any longer. She equipped her personal droids with the best weapons she could make, and turned a small army of Mouse Droids into remote bombs, and she made her escape, all the droids providing a distraction as she stole a Lambda-class shuttle and fled. From there, she made her way to the Rebellion, and offered them her services.
Today, Cassandra works within Sector Force Lantilles, building all sorts of experimental weapons, fancy armor suits, modified droids, and all sorts of other mechanical devices for her fellow Rebels. She's developed a bit of a reputation as a mad scientist, as she pushes technology to the absolute limit, and then past it, though she is fully devoted to bringing down the Empire for all that it has done...
Motivation
Innovation/Invention - While working on improving traditional weapons and repairing equipment is what pays her bills, Cassandra has always sought the Technological challenge of inventing new equipment, especially weapons and droids. While working on Alliance projects, she will often pursue her own personal projects as well, and then might submit the result to her superiors for mass-production if it's useful enough.
Duties
Research and Development (400 Points) - Cassandra is determined to stay on the bleeding edge of technology, making weapons, armor, and droids far and above anyone else in the galaxy. As a member of the Alliance, she will ensure that the Alliance remains at that bleeding edge, as well.
