Leno found employ with the Misko Corporation on Corellia, where his innovative brilliance garnered him a place in the research and development department of the company's heir-apparent, Hanon Misko, with whom he became firm friends.

Then the Death Star destroyed Alderaan. Leno discovered the fruits of his research had been used by the corporation in components used in the warmachine. Horrified that humans could do such things to their own kind, akin to the atrocities of the Arkanian Revolution his community had fled Arkania to escape, Leno confided in his friend.

Hanon confronted his father then disappeared. Leno was punished for his whistle-blowing, fired from his job and blackballed from working in the Inner Core.

Faced with either returning to his homeworld or exploring the Outer Rim, he decided to venture into the frontier.
