Background
Kyla Gerrat was a Journalism Student at Skywatch Polytechnic College on Chandrila. She was a dedicated student, always interested in discovering the truth of a matter, and bringing it to light.
A year before she would graduate from the college, she received an assignment in class to look into an event and write an article on it as if she were working for one of the major news networks. The professor left the topic of research to up to the students in their class, and Kyla decided to look into the disappearance of Chandrilan Defense Secretary John Cloudchaser. Official articles she looked into seemed cut-and-dried enough, but she dug deeper, intent on uncovering the full story.
As she was searching, she was approached by an individual who had 'personal connections to Secretary Cloudchaser'. The offer of an interview and a look into a unique perspective of the matter drew her to a rather small-looking apartment, where she was ambushed and knocked unconscious.
She came to in an Imperial Security Bureau Interrogation Chamber, where the individual who had approached her was revealed as an ISB Agent. The ISB had caught wind of her investigation into the secretary's disappearance, but could not let her finish it. The agent offered her a deal: If she were to give up on her investigation, and research a topic of their choosing, the ISB would let Kyla go, and could even retain her services for a later date.
Kyla refused, her journalistic integrity appalled at the sheer audacity of the offer. The ISB Agent had her locked up in a nearby detention cell, to give her time to 'think it over'.
Luckily, one of Kyla's friends at the college was an undercover Rebel Operative, who realized what had happened to her. The detention center was attacked, and Kyla was rescued. The friend wanted to get her offworld and to safety, but she was not wanting to leave just yet. The ISB wanted to keep her from getting to the bottom of Secretary Cloudchaser's disappearance, so she was determined to solve the mystery, regardless of their interference. With the help of her friend and their cell, she was able to uncover the truth of what happened: Secretary Cloudchaser had been taken by the Empire, and was being held hostage to ensure the Chandrilan government stayed loyal to the Empire.
Realizing that those in charge of the Empire had gone corrupted with power, Kyla knew she had to do her part to expose the corruption, and bring down the Empire. She wrote the article needed for her class project, and gave it to her friend to pass to the professor, along with her apologies to not be able to present it in person. At that point, she finally allowed her friend to smuggle her offworld, and to the Rebel Alliance, where she joined up as a journalist.
While she is not a properly trained combatant, Kyla still fights in her own way, exposing the corruption of the Empire and bringing it to the public eye...
Motivation
Creed/Power Corrupts - Kyla has seen first hand the atrocities and injustices that can arise when power is consolidated among a small number of people, both before and after she joined the Alliance. She now seeks to show the rest of the Galaxy what she knows, so that the corrupt systems can be brought down, and new, better, systems can take their place.
Duties
Political Support - Kyla puts her journalistic training to good use, publishing Rebel-sponsored newsletters and Holonet blogs showing the true face of the Empire to the galaxy. While it places her in danger, she feels it is her duty to expose the people of the galaxy to the Empire's true nature, and show the efforts of the Alliance.
