Duties
Description
Xhal'zayyk is a young verpine.
Xhal has forward facing and crooked antennae, which they often hang improvised jewellery made of discarded and unusable machine parts from. Xhal has a mid-tone green exoskeleton, with some striping and fading effects in a darker colour, somewhat resembling a wasp, and functioning as a very slight form of camouflage. They are almost 2 metres tall, and very skinny, making them surprisingly light for their height.
They are force-sensitive, but have no force training and little awareness of it, and subconsciously push people to stop looking at them at all times. Even by verpine standards, they are unpleasantly bug-like to most alien races, with wasp-like mouth plates and large dark eyes, which often means others are inclined to overlook them anyway.
Xhal dresses in quite an understated way, as though they are uncomfortable with the idea of people staring, and often choose neutrally-coloured garments to help avoid notice. Neutrally-coloured clothes also typically are good choices to hide sensitive items such as weaponry within. Xhal does not seem to own any genuinely nice clothing, or any shoes.
Having attention drawn to Xhal has typically been a negative experience throughout their life, and it shows strongly in their body language. They rarely raise their voice, tend to act in ways to blend into crowds, and often draw themselves inwards or hunch over to avoid unwanted attention. They have very low presence in a conversation, and it's hard to tell which came first.
They identify as agender, but as they are typically assumed to be male and express as male on missions, they typically express themselves in more feminine ways with friends or crewmates. They are hermaphroditic like all sentient verpine. They mostly, but non-exclusively, use they/them pronouns.
I intend them to be clearly Australian in their manner of speaking and their accent, although I'm not going to type it out for reasons of being way too annoying. Just assume it's there, and I'll put in Australian slang when it feels fitting and natural. Xhal's speech often includes additional clicking type noises, particularly when tutting, or struggling to enunciate between labial sounds. Their accent makes it sound like their name is "Shell".
