Background
How did you discover your Force sensitivity?
The Force? What is this Force? Rook is simply a Findsman, following the mists to long forgotten treasures. Rook asks the mists and they show Rook where to go. They tell Rook when things are near and grant Rook visions of the future. Rook knows not of this Force, but Rook doubts it can compare to the power of a Findsman.
Describe a moment where you fell prey to your moral weakness or experienced a tragedy/horror that still haunts you.
When Rook was young, Rook bonded with a creature native to Gand, forming a connection deeper than blood. During one of the Findsman training trials, Rook took the creature along into the tomb Rook was sent to investigate. The floor near the item Rook was supposed to bring back was trapped, which Rook easily avoided with Rook’s training. Upon reaching the item, Rook was proud to have completed the trial so easily and took a minute to savor the victory. In this Gand’s exultation, this Gand forgot to guide the trailing companion through the traps. As this Gand’s friend tried to follow, it quickly triggered one. It was a cruel trap and did not kill the creature instantly. This Gand, having no weapons, was forced to kill the creature with this Gand's own hands to end the suffering. This Gand cradled the body and sobbed for many hours that day. This Gand was the last to finish the trial, but learned a lesson in humility.
How did you come to join the NJO?
Rook has not come to join the Jedi, Rook simply followed the mists. They lead Rook to this moon and seem content to settle here. This is strange to Rook, because the mists are always shifting, but Rook will continue to follow the mists and go where they lead. If that is here with the Order, Rook will be content.
Name one NPC your character has a strong connection with. This could be a family member, a friend, a work contact, or a bitter rival.
C’nax is a Findsman that trained with Rook, and both a friend and a rival. The instructors favored C’nax, so Rook did everything possible to match or exceed C’nax’s accomplishments. Rook does not think C’nax took much notice of Rook during the training, but Rook made C’nax notice him during their janwuine-jikas. After Rook and C’nax were granted the title of Findsman, C’nax approached Rook and issued a challenge to see which would become the best Findsman. Since then, Rook has kept in touch with C’nax to discuss accomplishments and struggles. Rook respects C’nax, and believes C’nax feels the same.
[Optional] Describe a pivotal moment in your life where you demonstrated your moral strength despite adversity.
During Rook's janwuine-jika, Rook spent many moons searching the mists for clues. The mists finally pointed Rook to a planet named Iego, so Rook was given a ship and sent off. Iego was not a friendly place; there were plants that tried to engulf Rook and winged creatures that tried to snatch Rook up for a meal. But Rook felt something strange after landing. Even though there were no mists to guide Rook, there was a power far greater than Rook had ever felt pulling at Rook. Unsure of this power, but aware of the pull, Rook hid from the creatures above and avoided the plants until Rook came to an old temple. As the power grew, so too did Rook's excitement. Rook was so excited Rook completely missed the old droids standing guard near the entrance until Rook was well inside. As the droids powered on and slowly began firing wild shots, Rook dashed further into the temple until Rook found a stone door to close and block the path. Rook was alone in what looked like a tomb. But where others might panic, Rook only saw an opportunity to find something lost for many many years. As Rook looked around, there appeared to be a small box calling out to Rook, almost singing. After opening it, Rook saw a folded set of robes with plates of armor resting on top and a small tube of metal with intricate designs. Ignoring the robes at first, Rook picked up the tube and examined it. Rook found something that looked like a switch and pressed it, nearly impaling Rook’s chest with the laser blade that extended from the tube. Rook was unsure exactly what this was, but it could cut through anything and seemed to sing a joyous song as Rook held it. Turning back to the robes, Rook pulled them out and noticed that with a few altercations with Rook's knife, they could fit well. Rook found places to hook the armor plates into the robes and even a place to hang the laser sword from the belt. Rook knew that calling for help would take days and lead to Rook failing the trial. Armed with a powerful new weapon and armor, Rook charged out of the room, cutting down all droids, plants, and creatures that got between Rook and the ship. Upon returning to Gand, Rook recounted the story and was praised for overcoming the challenge alone where others may have called for assistance. Rook was given the honor of Findsman and a name for Rook’s impressive deeds.
Motivation
Pursuit: Exploration
The life of a Findsman leads Rook to many new places. Some are highly populated and civilized, while others are lifeless, inaccessible, or forgotten. Rook enjoys discovering the hidden secrets of each location and continues to fly further and further to find things no Findsman has before.
Morality
Morality: 54
Strength: Independence
Weakness: Arrogance
As a Findsman, Rook is expected to be able to follow the mists to whatever needs to be found on his own. To put others in harm's way to protect oneself is seen as selfish and reckless. Because of this, Rook takes pride in being self-sufficient no matter where he might end up. Unfortunately, Rook's reluctance to ask for aid can make him come off as arrogant. He is also convinced that his training has prepared him for anything and is the best way to solve any situation, so he is quick to reject any idea to the contrary until proven wrong.
Description
Rook is short for a Gand, just over 1.5m tall. His face is dominated by two large, multi-faceted eyes and an ammonia respirator over his mouth. He has a greenish-brown chitinous hide covered in many scars. A ragged brown cloak obscures his form, but the occasional glimpse of reflections exposes the armor hidden underneath. Small carved tools and implements hang from loops and belts all over his body.
