Ashla is from the Togruta colony Kiros, and received training from clone troopers before the Empire took over. When more troopers showed up, the elders of her tribe trusted them. Ashla was conscripted into the Empire on threat of her people due to her natural piloting skills. She has a deep sense of obligation to her family and desires to free them from Imperial control. Ashla is primarily motivated by her relationships with people and holds her comrades in high esteem, however, her tribe will always come first.

While working as a pilot for the Empire, she has created a little bit of a name for herself as one of the best. So when her Wookie mechanic friend, Kallashorurra, began attacking troopers she was able to step in and save his life. He now follows her due to a life debt and helps with the mechanics on any ship she pilots.

A Lieutenant Herkin approached Ashla with a deal to pilot for the Hutt Teemo and in return he would use his connections to alleviate some of the Imperial oppression on her tribe. Flying for Teemo isn't much different from the Imperials but recently Ashla received a message from her family that proves Herkin lied about helping. Raik, a comrade who has been with her during her time at Teemo's, has come to Ashla with an offer to get off Tattooine since the ship she was flying had to be sold for parts just recently. He needs a pilot and she needs a ship.
