Background
Accidental Rebel
Bane had previously trained and worked as a hunter and pathfinder on his home planet of Uvena Prime, and during the Imperial Occupation he was a contractor for the Empire off-world. He eventually was dishonourably discharged due to fighting with Imperial Officers over a dispute at a cantina that went sour - he was jailed for this crime (some Officer has nasty facial scars to boot) but Bane was lucky enough to be picked up by some nearby Rebels who were springing convicts. They offered him freedom in exchange for services rendered - Bane took the opportunity and served as a scout with the Rebel Alliance until the formation of the New Republic.
While in the military, Bane's skills were often outweighed by his ability to piss off his superiors and peers, as Bane would constantly belittle others and proclaim himself the best at any role requiring natural skills. He was written up several times for causing physical altercations, and eventually Bane calmed down towards the end of the war - however, the damage was done to his service records.
Bane stayed with the New Republic but was moved away from active military service with the diminishment of the war. He suspects his assignment to the Diplomatic Corps is a form of punishment but he is hellbent on proving himself - for a long time he was stationed as security on an outpost and many of his skills languished while he waited reassignment.
Motivation
Comrades
Bane, like many Shistavanens, regards himself as physically superior to most other species; but his troubled time in Rebel Military gave him some perspective on how his peers can be very well skilled in their own way.
Culturally, Shistavanens have family-centric ideals and Bane worked hard to apply these notions towards his squad when serving in the war, and now applies it towards the diplomatic team he has been assigned to. Even though he still struggles with his pride, he does try to focus on keeping them alive and in good health, and if possible with a successful mission on the logs.
Duties
Support - 0
During the active war, Bane served as a scout/pathfinder for a Rebel Company, and was thus deemed fit to be transferred to the Diplomatic hierarchy to apply those same skills (alongside security and piloting capability) to support the negotiation efforts - this is what Bane hopes is the truth, but a part of him assumes this might just be a shitty gig that no one else wanted and he had little other choice in the matter (it is better than being outpost security, at least). With very little inherent charisma, Bane is a jack-of-all-trades to assist the team.
Bane is expected to help protect the team, advise locals on NR practices for policing and combatting terrorism (aka Imperial Remnant advocates), advise the diplomatic team or NR locals on safety and security in neutral areas, and share security information back with the NR on any intel he finds.
