Background

Hinrath A'bo'rum

Hinrath was an honored tender, one of the few who dedicated their life to taking care of the sentient groves of bafforr trees. During the clone war he was contracted to help transplant a grove as part of the Republic's effort to ensure the long term survival of the species in times of war, he was honored to be a part of the project. After all, a project spearheaded by a senator as well respected and beloved as Sheev Palpatine would benefit all of the galaxy.

The sizable grove was transplanted to a research station known as the Maw, hidden in the nebulae around Kessel. They spared no expense in ensuring everything went well for the trees, from innumerable sensors testing the air and soil to lights that could combine infinite wavelengths to the angstrom precision to fabricators that could make precise mixes of soil and fertilizer, all processed by one of the most advanced research computers in the Republic.

Things went well at first, the trees let him know what they needed, he kept tweaking and perfecting the environment, planting additional groves and collecting amazing quantities of data that he was assured was being sent to the floating herd-ships back on Ithor. The galaxy moved on in the background while he worked; he was told that apparently the war ended, which was good because all of that death and violence was bad. His benefactor became emperor, but they said there was a vote so it had to be Ok.

Regardless, he kept at it. His initial wild success slowed down and then reversed. The trees grew sick, it wasn't any standard blight and all of the data was inconclusive at best and contradictory at worse. They stopped growing and some of the trees were dying off. Something seemed wrong on the mental end as well; The trees became petulant, argumentative, and sometimes after communing with them he would end up hearing horrible things, awful things, things that no sentient should hear.

Sheev was sympathetic, and offered all the support he could, but strangely never seemed sad or disappointed at what was happening with the forest. Sometimes, when Hinrath told him what he was seeing there was the hint of a smile.

Hinrath's health seemed to decline in step with the trees. His bile duct regularly became clogged, his left mouth always tasted sticky and his right mouth seemed to be prone to slurring. As the dreams got worse and worse, he started to sleep less. He knew his work suffered and he begged Sheev for a leave of absence but Sheev convinced him that the work he was doing was helping countless Ithorians and bringing the wisdom of the bafforr trees to sentient throughout the galaxy.

Things came to a head when the grove did the unthinkable, it murdered. Part of the grove deliberately cut off nutrition and fed toxins into another part, killing the trees. Hinrath had to watch the sensors as some trees died and others grew stronger, every time he tried to commune with the trees he could only sense pain, rage and madness. He had to resort to drastic measures. He cut off the murderous trees from the grove, isolating the taint as it spread. The tainted trees kept trying to grow roots and extend lianas to the healthy trees and seemed to be growing impossibly fast. As soon as he blocked one root, two more would grow, as soon as he chopped down an extending dendrite several on the opposite end of the grove were spreading their sickness.

Growing tired and knowing he couldn't continue to keep up, he did something that would earn him eternal infamy in the eyes of his people. He burned the sick trees to ash and poisoned the ground they grew on. Exhausted both physically and mentally he wandered into the middle of the healthy grove and passed out. He believed the nightmare was over, the rot had been cut out and that by killing the tainted trees he had saved the rest of the grove. If nature allowed, he would be able to study, prevent and even cure the sickness to keep such horror from happening again.

He woke up and went to commune with the trees, he needed to see if they survived the culling and to feel the reassurance of their collected wisdom. As he did, he felt the trees getting corrupted. He felt it flow from the ng through his hands and directly into the soul of the trees. Somehow, the taint was within him. He watched in despair as every single one of the bafforr trees fell to the evil pouring out of him, felt in real time.

Sheev, his mentor, his benefactor, his patron showed up as the last tree succame, no longer hiding his smile.

"Good. You have done well. Without your care and diligence I would never have been able to adapt Sith alchemy to your quaint little forest. I release you from your duties and as a final kindness, release you from your suffering"

With a twitch of a hand The Emperor shot lightning through the stunned Ithorian, drowning in a sea of agony and leaving his smoking body in the middle of the trees he loved so much and failed so badly.

This did not kill him. Weather it was the last vestiges of goodness in the trees trying to save his life for a chance at redemption or the evil will trying to damn him to live with his regret he will never know, but the trees altered their internal chemistry enough to draw off most of the lightning. Burnt, broken and with scars both internal and external, Hinrath stumbled away from the research station and took a shuttle back to civilization.

Gone was the decadent but egalitarian republic. The new empire was cold, cruel and unfeeling, especially to nonhumans. He couldn't go back to Ithor, they would know what he did. He couldn't commune with his beloved Bafforr trees, the risk of spreading the taint was not worth the risk. He had only one thing that gave him any sense of hope, any feeling beyond emptiness and pain.

Revenge.

He would dedicate his life to doing as much damage to the emperor as he could.

He had a few advantages; No one suspects an Ithorian of treachery. Many stormtroopers went down with a knife in their back by considering him weak prey. He had no family connections, even had the Ithorians not disowned him 20 years on the space station separated him from everyone in his further life. And he knew the one thing Palpatine feared.

He was first and foremost a scholar. Even though the imperial censors were quite good at re-writing history he was able to use those skills to dig up the original holorecording of Palpatine's ascension to the throne. Instead of a somber event attended solely by humans and served solely by the so-called lesser races it was a boisterous multi species event. More importantly, he remembered the words he spoke. "The attack by the Jedi have left me scarred." The Jedi hurt Palpatine. From reading about order 66, the Jedi were enough of a threat that Palpatine was willing to risk the war effort to kill them all. The Jedi were a threat, and just just like he couldn't erase every last vestige of the real history from the galaxy Hinrath knew that they couldn't erase every last Jedi.

He knew what he had to do. Find the Jedi, learn their ways and use them to make Palpatine pay.

Motivation

Obligation: Obsession: Destroy the empire
Obligation: Responsibility: Protect ithorians; he needs to isolate himself from ithorians and ithorian flora and fauna to prevent his sicknes from spreading.

Morality

Strength: Curiosity. His seeking of wisdom and of new techniques made him well respected among his peers before everything happened
Ibsession: empire. If his chest was a superlaser, he would have converted both hearts into plasma and fired it upon the emperor.

Description

2 meters tall, lanky. In his mid 60s which is middle age for an Ithorian. His carapace is starting to green but in good shape all things considered.
Litchberg scars along his torso from being hit by the force lightning.
