Background
Jins' life began with a relatively unremarkable childhood on Nar Shaddaa. It was punctuated by stints as a scrap barge pilot for his neighbor's salvage business, earning enough credits to avoid the shadiest sides of life in the de facto center of the underworld. Dh'aro - business owner, expert technician, and frail old Gran - was glad for the youngster's help, and treated him as the offspring he never had.
Dh'aro eventually offered him a permanent position towing ruined and disabled starships through Hutt space with his very own secondhand tugship, Clumsy Jaunt. It was in large part thanks to him, Jins was told, that business was improving, and this ship was meant to guarantee he'd stick around. Jins was astonished, and he began his new career with eagerness and gratitude.
Several years later, Jins found a friend in a misshapen little Gossam named Yeri, a fellow tugship pilot and collector of Outer Rim lore. The tales learned from his new friend were many, and the amount of knowledge gained was immense. With Yeri's ragged collection of texts sparking a desire for more in him, Jins began self-taught lessons in astrogation, hyperdrive operation, trade route cartography, and most exciting of all, the phenomenon called hyperspace. It was his fascination from that point on.
A dream of exploring hyperspace bore itself into his mind, and bringing the galaxy to a greater understanding of it became his less than modest ambition. It was something close to noble, if not for how silly it sounded to other pilots. But Yeri understood. He matched this dream of exploration, intending it to be a way to expand his collection of artifacts, knickknacks, and stories.
Fortune and tragedy combined to make their dream a reality when Dh'aro eventually passed away, leaving one of his personal starships - his favorite, by most accounts - to Jins. What it was called before Jins owned it can hardly be remembered now, but its new name was truly fitting. The Nimble Jaunt was lithe, quiet, and a thing of pure speed.
Jins was at his happiest among the stars, especially during long hyperspace trips, when most people became bored and restless. As months blended into years out on the fringe, Yeri became more and more agitated by their extensive time between worlds. He wanted to be among peoples and cultures, collecting tales and possessions. He called Jins' pursuits a search for questions instead of answers, but Jins couldn't find any problem in that assertion.
Motivation
Discovery - Knowledge
Jins' motivation borders on obsession. He seeks what he will likely never find: answers to the riddle of hyperspace.
Obligations
Betrayal (10 pts)
The loss of his ship hurts almost as much as the loss of his friend. If given the choice between having his ship returned or their friendship restored, it would not be a decision made easily.
