Background
Vohk Rennand doesn't know where or even when he was born. Growing up in the under levels of Coruscant doesn't give one the luxury of knowing their own history. His childhood was brief, his innocence briefer, and he grew into another crime statistic, one in trillions. There is no law in the under city, only survival. One day he picked the wrong pocket, lifted 26 credits from a Jedi Master. His punishment was an end to his life on the streets and a new life learning the ways of the Force and all the stifling righteousness associated with it.
His former mark, now Master, was Louk'hap Cherp, an Ithorian mystic. Cherp preached wisdom, patience, oneness with the universe, and a surprisingly utilitarian view on suffering. While Vohk yearned for adventure and writing all the wrongs he never had the power to as a street urchin, Cherp explained that the way of the Force was one of balance: life and death, joy and sorrow, pain and relief in harmony. The two clashed often.
Matters came to a head when Vohk compromised an investigation into an organized crime ring to save children caught in the middle. Cherp chastised his padawan, telling him that by sparing few children pain he doomed many more to suffering in the future. Vohk was left at the temple when Cherp was called away to provide relief to a planetary wildfire. That was the last they saw one another, Vohk's master died completing his mission.
As an older padawan, Vohk did not receive a new teacher, instead he bounced between fosters until finally receiving a conditional knighthood as member of a group of similarly troubled Jedi apprentices.
