Background
Carcano, of Troiken, was raised around pod racing. After a multitude of near-death instances podracing, Carcano realized that the smartest way to score credits and actually stick around to long enough to spend 'em is to bet on the races themselves.
Call it luck or what you'd like, Carcano did more than alright at the track. He'd lost a few thousand credits on a bad bet here and there, sure - but his wins generally outnumbered his losses by a pretty hefty margin and he'd gotten by comfortably on his profits. Soon enough, Carcano became the official bookie for most races on Troiken; he practically ran the entire gambling ring there for a few years, poker included with the podracing. He took his cut off the top of each bet and started saving, with a much bigger pot in mind.
Motivation
Resource Acquisition:
The PC knows the importance of being properly supplied, as well as the value of being able to count on supply. Acquiring assets is only the beginning. The better trick is knowing what materiel is in short supply, where to find it, and how to acquire it. Sometimes a single pair of welding goggles is more useful than a dozen blasters, and sometimes a single blaster is more useful that all of the goggles in the galaxy. The PC forges alliances that can provide equipment and also deliver it where it is needed.
