Being a bit of an outcast on my mothers home world of Umbara or the "Shadow World" I decided to explore early on. You see, my mother had a brief experience with the core worlds and met my father. A very charismatic Zeltron who promised her the galaxy, but in reality was using her for information about why they were there. In the process, I was the result of that meeting.
I'll give my mother credit though. She went against her family to keep me but at great personal cost. She was never with anyone else and was shunned by a lot of the local asswholes. Not everyone hated us though. Her grandfather cared for us by giving us a place to stay and work where he could get it. He was a good man and my only father figure. When he died things got worse, but by then we were used to it. Garronn, my grandfather, was good with machines and used to tell me stories about the different worlds and races. But more importantly, he showed me how to play games of chance and how to run a good con. He called it Bartering. Getting the best price out of a piece of junk. But I called it separating a fool from his credits.
I managed to get enough credits for a passage off world with the hopes of making my fortune and telling the rest of my family to piss off.
So far I've made a few contacts and more than a few deals. Most in my favor.
