Background
Vruklakov Dhaov was born on Devaron and raised within the traditions of his people. Like all Devaronian males, he was expected to travel the galaxy, gather resources, and one day form his own family. He always accepted the part about traveling. The part about putting down roots, he did not.
From an early age, Vruklakov chose the life of an explorer. He became a Scout specializing in dangerous regions of the Outer Rim—hostile worlds, forgotten routes, and territories where sensors and official maps were of little use. He did not work for governments; he worked for those who needed to cross the impossible and come back alive.
It was in this context that he came to hate the Empire.
On more than one occasion, Vruklakov witnessed Imperial forces arriving after he had passed through. Where there had once been small independent communities, free trading posts, or improvised hideouts, there were soon blockades, prisons, and orbital fire. It always began the same way: someone mapped the region. Someone delivered routes, landing zones, and environmental data. The Empire simply did the rest.
On one particular mission, hired by anonymous intermediaries, Vruklakov realized too late that his information was being used for an Imperial offensive. When he understood what was happening, he acted.
Vruklakov did not blow anything up. He did not confront troops. He did what he knew best: he altered maps, removed critical points, and distorted access routes. Nothing obvious. Nothing that would raise suspicion. Just enough to ensure that Imperial forces arrived late, poorly positioned, and unprepared.
To Vruklakov, it was sabotage.
To the Empire, it was just another failed operation in the Outer Rim.
He was never discovered. Never accused. And precisely because of that, he stayed alive.
Since then, Vruklakov has refused to take any contract that benefits the Empire, directly or indirectly. He does not consider himself a rebel, nor does he make ideological speeches. His hatred is practical: the Empire turns knowledge into oppression, and he refuses to be part of that.
Medicine entered his life the same way everything else did—out of necessity. When the Empire arrives, there are always wounded. Vruklakov learned to treat burns, stop bleeding, and deal with poisons because someone had to do it—and there were almost never medics nearby.
Today, Vruklakov Dhaov continues to explore remote systems, helping people remain beyond Imperial reach. He does not fight open battles. He removes paths, closes doors, and makes the Empire lose its way.
And as long as they do not know who is responsible, he will keep doing it.
Motivation
Strength – Survival
Vruklakov survives because he plans, observes, and chooses when to act—and when to disappear.
Weakness – Guilt
He knows he failed to save everyone. This drives him to help whenever he can, even when it is not sensible.
Desire – Discovery
Exploration is still his essence, but now with a purpose: keeping places free from the Empire.
Obligations
Betrayal: As an Obligation, Betrayal tends to work in the direction of the character having betrayed someone and having to either avoid the consequences for it or having to somehow pay for their sin (Motivation works better for a character who has been betrayed). An Explorer may have taken up the career to travel far away from those they betrayed. Alternatively, they may have double-crossed on a deal of some kind or tried to get away with selling important information to one too many sources. Fringers, Traders. Scouts, and Archaeologists are especially prone to the latter.
