Kardo grew up on a prison planet, son of common criminals. His parents died of harsh labour when he was young, leaving him alone to survive in the primitive conditions. He was fostered by an Imperial officer who treated him sternly but who fed, clothed, and educated him in exchange for domestic service in his household.

The officer recommended Kardo for early entry into the Stormtrooper Academy, where he was enlisted at 16. Though he excelled as a soldier, he failed to conform to the strict standards of behaviour expected of an Imperial soldier and was discharged after four years, including a combat tour in the Outer Rim. At the exit interview, he was approached by an officer of Imperial Intelligence, who, reading his file, offered Kardo the chance to become an Outback Ranger. After a brutal but brief selection process, he was sent out on his first assignment as a Provisional Ranger.

Law and Order: Though idolizing law, order, and justice, Kardo is simply unsuited by talent and temperament to civilized society.

Kardo is only satisfied when he feels his fight or flights instincts kick in, sending him back to the sublime sensory experiences of his youth and military service. This, combined with his utter contempt for criminals, subversives, and bohemians turn him into potentially deadly slayer of the Emperor's enemies.

Duty-bound: 25. Kardo is an Outback Ranger, employed on a 25 year contract by the Imperial Security Bureau to patrol the frontiers of Imperial Space. He has a handle who routinely issues directives and occasionally formal orders, the latter of which must be followed to the letter.
