Comfortable Beneficiaries:
Shrivan, despite his current position, did not come from a low rung of society. In fact, his mother was on the Galactic Senate, and was in favor of many different and charitable causes. Of course, with his family's force sensitivity it didn't last. After the eventual deaths of his father and his siblings, Shrivan was forced to admit the wrongdoings of the Empire, and the Republic alike.

Belief:
Shrivan grew up amongst his force sensitive siblings, though he didn't begrudge their gifts. This being the being the case, their parents instilled in them a deep love of the Force. Though, unlike his family, he valued a very different belief system. In his adult travels, he stumbled on and adopted a monastic belief in the Force.

Resource Acquisition:
During his time as Captain and Helmsman of the Mustafarian Lullaby, Shrivan has been known to be available to the Rebel Alliance and to the Galactic Empire as a procurement agent. He's hired to do the procurements that need plausible deniability.
