Background
Andru comes from a wealthy family of local politicians in Coruscant. He was raised with a silver spoon and the best resources, but his family has a very ambitious drive and no amount of power or social status is enough. They expected very much of him from a very young age. He had potential to be great, every Barrones does. It's in their blood. But there was very little room for recreation in his life until he met those expectations. His family desperately wants him to follow their footsteps into the realm of politics, and the fast-tracked route to success through that was the Imperial Academy. And while this ambition did not feel entirely his own, it presented itself as an easy opportunity for him to chase his own ambitions: knowledge, and superiority. Maybe even more so than his family, Drew harbors a deep ambition for power and acclaim. But to be handed these things would not be enough for him. It would feel like an insult. Deeper than these ambitions is the desire not to have these things but to earn them, to be rightfully wielding these triumphs in whatever fashion they come. So it was with fanaticism that Drew pursued his studies at the Academy. He learned much in his studies, mainly that the Empire loved itself very much and that Jedi and force users were evil and a threat to peace and order. It was one particular tangent mid-lecture about the dangers of force users that brought back a far repressed memory. Throwing a fit. A door slamming. No, slamming a door. But it was out of reach. A look of shock on his mother's face. A very concerned talk, sitting down with mom and dad. They look scared. They make him promise never to do anything like that again. To forget it happened. How much trouble he could be in. It all came back to him, and with it a jolting awareness that he could be in danger if this ever came out. He never told a soul, but he did a fair amount of borderline illegal research into force-sensitive subjects to try and learn anything that may be of help. His original intent in this extracurricular study had been to try and find a way to suppress any possibility of that happening again, but then his old friend Ambition caught up with his fears, and a new idea formed. He wanted to learn how to use this to his advantage, to reach out to it and take what he could from it. He has gained precious little to show for it so far, but he graduated the Imperial Academy with promising numbers. He was awarded a job as a diplomat for his exquisite literary and verbal capabilities, and given a temporary assignment at an entry-level planet to learn the basics of the job.
