Background
Rorick “Rory” von Treeves of the Karth von Treeves
Rorick von Trieves was born the third son of a noble Azlanti family, and as such appeared destined for the natural aristocratic occupations of hunting and warfare. However he had an uncle Belmont, a country squire and vice-admiral, who was more educated, and childless. Rorick’s father had agreed with the uncle (his brother) before Rorick was born that if Rorick were a boy, the uncle could adopt and raise him. When Rorick was born, though, with a beautiful set of seal point markings which both flattered the family lineage and could make their family known in the local courts, father reneged on the deal. Then, when a fourth son was born, Uncle Belmont kidnapped Rorick. Rorick’s father threatened to murder Belmont, but eventually calmed down, since Rorick stood to inherit a large estate from his uncle. As such, Rorick has some serious daddy issues.
Belmont toured the countryside with Rorick, showing him to famous and noble friends. Eventually, he insisted that Rorick learn language puzzles and literature, so he could claim Rorick as a wunderkind. Rorick was fawned upon for his pure breeding (“the finest quality of character” his uncle insisted), his skillful game hunting, and his wide knowledge of classical literature.
At thirteen, Rorick entered prep schools, eventually to move on to University of Abadar to study law and philosophy, according to his uncle’s insistence that he become a lawyer to help protect Karth from becoming too corrupted by liberal ideals. A curious and efficient student, Rorick excelled in his studies, but the more he studied law the more he knew he wanted to study something more practical--with fewer libraries and more hand’s on learning. Secretly, on nights and weekends, he’s been studying artificery and warforged construction, even trying his hand at creating a few prototypes which he dreams of testing out in the real world where the firsthand knowledge lives.
