1.) Saldo and his family made-up the the shaman caste of his clan due to their latent abilities in the force - although they did not refer to it as that. He was trained from youth on how to perform various rituals in order to reach out towards and connect with what he would later come to know as the 'Force'. Due to Mustafar's isolationist nature not much information flowed in or out of the planet; it was not until Saldo escaped his world - wracked by Imperial slavery and control - did he discover his abilities were truly related to the Force.
2.) Saldo's greatest horror which haunts him still is the enslavement of his people and extermination of the many Mustafarian shamans he shared blood with. As the Empire culled many of the great shamans due to their great connection to the force, and their great social power among the Mustafarians.
3.) Saldo actively followed the Rebellion and their exploits against the Empire, but never joined due his inadequate training with blasters and a lack of understanding of the greater galaxy. Yet, when he heard of the news of a New Jedi Order being established he scrounged what little he had to gain transport to a locale in which he could prove himself. He demonstrated to a Knight his abilities through a Mustafarian force ritual, and from there he found entrance.
4.) Saldo has a strong connection to his son whom he sadly had to leave on Mustafar when he escaped. While Mustafar is now free, Saldo is now much too wracked by guilt to return and learn of his son's fate. Especially if the fate were death due to his escape.
5.) As Saldo settled into a quieter life after his escape from Mustafar he took sympathy upon a Rebel smuggler who had crashed near his outer-rim home. He hid, clothed, sheltered, and fed the man for many weeks until giving the man most of his savings so he could off the planet and keep fighting the good fight unlike he was able to. He served the final waning months of the Empire under incessant interrogation by the backwater planet's Imperial garrison for his troubles and actions.

Saldo and his family were members of his clan's shaman caste for generations, and this was due to latent familial ability in the force- usually extremely minor in ability. Though both the clan and the caste did not consider it 'the force', but instead simply a greater connection to their souls and the influences such souls have on the universe. The caste's connection was enhanced through intricate rituals and deep meditations. Yet, Saldo only enjoyed his exploration of his spiritualism until just after reaching Mustafarian maturity at age 25. As shortly after his 26th birth-day the Empire took power and a strangle hold of his world. His people were enslaved and sent to labor for resources and operate facilities on Mustafar for the Empire. He was branded on his 28th birth-day with an Imperial marking to remind him of his duties as a servant under the Empire after his failures to meet work quotas. He served under the Empire far into it's reign, and was unable to escape it harsh labor quotas until risking his life through burying himself in an ore shipment heading off world. Afterwards he found himself shipped deep into the core-world, and worked for a time under corporations as a sanitation worker, or for crime syndicates as a courier. Eventually he'd find himself in the Outer Rim and overtime becoming cognizant of the Rebellion and the Force. Finally understanding that his connection to 'souls' were much rather a connection to the Force. In that he found renewed purpose to his dedication to experimenting with new rituals to heighten his skills in the Force, and eventually even making his way into the New Jedi Order.
