Background
As a teenager, Kayo witnessed her parents gunned down by a gang on her home planet of Denon. As a way to exact revenge, Kayo learned how to wield a blaster, and spent the next five years hunting down and assassinating the gang members one by one, claiming the bounties that had been put out on them. After the last gang member, the leader, was dead, Kayo realised she had never planned beyond her revenge, and so decided to become a fully fledged Bounty Hunter, so as to hunt more criminals, and bring peace to others who had lost family like her.
Eventually, Kayo met a fellow bounty hunter while on a job, an Umbaran named Ferro Marcca, and the two begrudgingly worked together to track down their shared target. After successfully turning in their bounty, the two realised they worked well as a team, and decided to pair up for the foreseeable future. The two became decent friends over the next few years as they began making a name for themselves in certain circles, though they often butted heads, as their moral compasses were constantly clashing.
Their latest job was the biggest yet, as they were hired by a mid-rim political figure to eliminate their rival without drawing attention back to them. Kayo wasn't entirely comfortable assassinating a seemingly innocent person, but Ferro talked her round, and the credits helped with that. The two were paid fully in advance, and before they knew it they were on the hunt. It should have been easy, Kayo's skill with a blaster rifle meant they could eliminate the target from half way across the city, and Ferro's connection to the black market allowed him to purchase a specific type of ammunition used by a specific pirate group that often prowled this sector. If all went well the target would be dead and the blame put on pirates.
It did not go well, Ferro betrayed Kayo, shooting her quite literally in the back, revealing that he had been paid double by the target, and with all these credits, simply didn't need her anymore, but as a show of respect for their time together, he wasn't going to kill her outright, he was only going to leave her to die later. And so he took off in their ship, with all of their credits and most of their gear, leaving Kayo to watch on, unable to move. She would have died there were it not for her client, who had instructed a few of their personal guard to watch events unfold from the shadows, and once Ferro had left, they bandaged Kayo up and took her back to their boss.
The client was not entirely happy at events, and greatly desired their money back, but knew that Kayo did not have it, so they gave her an ultimatum. They could turn her over to the authorities, they had enough connections to ensure she would be locked away forever for any number of reasons, and though that wouldn't return their credits to them, it would be punishment enough for her failure. Or, she owed them big, she could leave, and do whatever she wanted in the galaxy at large, but one day they would come calling, and she would do a job for them, whatever she would normally be paid for it would instead go towards paying off her debt, and the cycle would repeat until all the credits had been repaid in full.
Kayo wasn't stupid, and she knew this politician was manipulating her, but she also didn't see a way out, so she accepted the ultimatum, and was free to go, now she awaits the day she's called upon, while hunting her erstwhile companion to exact a little revenge.
Motivation
Justice: This character seeks out injustice in the galaxy. They hunt criminals who are at large throughout the galaxy.0
Obligations
+10 obligation, 2,500 extra credits.
Betrayal: This Obligation can work in one of two ways: either the character is the target of a deep and personal betrayal, or the character is the one who betrayed others. Whether it's as simple as a betrayed confidence or broken promise or as serious as treason or mutiny, the betrayal eats away at the character and affects his everyday life. The target of the betrayal may seek answers, compensation, or simply revenge.
Debt: The character owes someone a great deal, whether that debt consists of money or something else. Perhaps the PC has a huge gambling debt to a Hutt, is indebted to the Czerka Corporation for his starship,
owes a wealthy family for patronage, or has some other serious financial obligation. To make matters worse, depending on who owns the debt, even fully paying it off might not get the character completely off the
hookâif the character can get that money, he can surely get more.
