Critical Injuries & Conditions

Talents

Name Rank Book & Page Description
Desert Dwellers 1 When making skill checks, Twi'leks may remove a setback die imposed due to arid or hot environmental conditions.
Surgeon 2 When this character makes a Medicine check to help a character heal wounds, the target heals one additional wound per rank of Surgeon.
Stim Application 1 The character may take the Stim Application action. To perform this action, they must have access to drugs, a medpac, or stimpacks. They make an Average difficulty Medicine check. If successful, one ally they are engaged with (including themselves) increases one characteristic of the character's choice by one for the remainder of the encounter, and suffers four strain. A single character's individual characteristics may each only be increased once by Stim Application during an encounter.
Grit 1 Each rank of Grit increases a character's strain threshold by one.
Resolve 1 When the character suffers strain, they suffer 1 less strain per rank of Resolve, to a minimum of one. This does not apply to voluntary strain loss.

Background

Chathna Lanell, nicknamed "Cha" by most of her friends and family, was born on the remote Outer Rim world of Nifalin, a mountainous planet colonized about 2 centuries before her birth in a small settlement known as Kenar Village. Her parents, Kholl and Shanni, were settlers who helped found the village, and Chathna had an older brother named Tidol and a younger sister named Vem.

Life on Nifalin was relatively peaceful, only dealing with the occasional savage beast or pirate gang. Stronger than most of her peers, Cha was a bit of a troublemaker growing up, getting into fights with the other colonists and frequently making more problems than she could easily solve. This idyllic lifestyle was not to last though, as when Cha was 16 a band of marauding slave traders came through and razed Kenar Village to the ground, killing both Kholl and Shanni and most of the rest of the village, while Cha and her siblings were sold into slavery.

Cha became the slave of an underworld surgical doctor on Nar Shaddaa, a relatively young human male named Dorin Sojav. For her part, Cha served as a sort of assistant, performing manual labor and fetching things for Dorin when he was busy. When unmonitored, Cha took the opportunity to learn medicine from watching Dorin work and reading through his textbooks, and she quickly became quite prodigious at medicine.

One day, while out buying medical supplies for Dorin, Cha returned to find he had been killed, his unpaid debt finally bringing his "benefactor", Lakka the Hutt, to act. The bounty hunter, a Mirialan named Onizsu, had lingered to capture Cha and hand her over to Lakka as a means of posthumously repaying Dorin's debt. Terrified of what that could entail, Cha begged Onizsu to not take her to Lakka. Sensing an opportunity, Onizsu laid claim to Dorin's documentation showing that Cha was his slave and had her slave bomb removed, telling Lakka later that some kind of error must have occurred, and that Cha had been freed by Dorin prior to his death.

Not one to do things for free, however, Onizsu told Cha that, while she was, at least legally speaking, free from slavery, he intended for her to continue serving him as a private medical expert and slave whenever he required, else he would reveal the slave documents he had to Lakka and turn her over to him. Forced to cooperate, Cha agreed to Onizsu's terms.

Over the past 2 years since, Cha has managed to find a job as a bartender at a local pub on Nar Shaddaa known as the Seventh Star, working on slowly building up her own personal medical practice with the funds she has earned from her job. Onizsu has made frequent calls on her, continually reminding Cha of the result should she refuse to help him in any ways he desires, financially, medically, or otherwise.

Motivation

Expertise - Chathna hopes to continue learning and growing as a fledgling doctor to where she can open her own official medical practice and serve the sick and injured of Nar Shaddaa, potentially even freeing herself from Onizsu in the process.

Siblings - Since she became free about 2 years ago, Chathna has wondered whatever happened to her siblings, Tidol and Vem, and hopes to be able to someday find and reunite with them, saving them from the clutches of slavery if necessary.

Obligations

Blackmail: 20 (+10 Obligation [+5 starting XP, +1000 starting credits]) - Onizsu, the male Mirialan bounty hunter, holds the necessary documents and legal files to prove that Chathna was the slave and property of Dorin Sojav, and threatens to hand these documents over to Lakka the Hutt, who wants to claim ownership over one of Dorin's few possessions, should Cha not cooperate with Onizsu's demands.
