Background
Alara Lyjan is the only daughter of Ariss Lyjan, Moff of the Nuiri Sector. With a compulsive gambler for a father, Alara grew up around the edges of casino tables, in company drawn from both the Imperial government and the less savoury characters who they gambled with.
Like many children of Imperial officers, she was sent to the nearby Imperial Academy of Mandalore to be trained in the bureaucracy of the Empire, but found the whole experience incredibly tedious. Just before her graduation, she stole one of her father's yachts, loaded it with a stack of (ill-gotten) credits and took off in the wider Outer Rim.
Since then, she has been on the move fairly continuously, using her upbringing and education to earn money and to exploit failings in the Empire where she can.
