Satele was born to an unknown family on Imperial Center, who abandoned her as an infant. She was adopted by a rich industrialist who could not conceive her own child. She was then moved to the families fortress on the acid-rain soaked world of Vjun. Over the next decade and a half, Satele was taught a variety of skills, and groomed to eventually take over the families holdings, though it was not to come to pass.

Unknown to her, and her adopted mother, Satele was beginning to exhibit her force sensitivity, and though the strong dark side aura of Vjun would have masked it, her first business trip to Coruscant allowed it to be detected by a member of the Inquisitorius. That night, their hotel was stormed by a company of Storm-troopers which quickly overwhelmed the dozen mercenaries hired by her family. Satele herself only narrowly escaped by climbing down the ventilation system of the tower, and escaping into the undercity of Coruscant where she stowed away on the first freighter she found.

This freighter would lead to Nar-Shadda, where Satele used her knowledge of slicing to do odd jobs for a Hutt named Gordo to get by. Though no matter what she did, the events of the night on Coruscant burned fresh within her. Eventually she would take a job to find an ancient holocron on Telos IV. Unbeknownst to her, the Imperials were also searching for this holocron and after finding it, her ship was caught in a tractor beam as it attempted to leave the system.
