Strings was designed for combat and then immediately decommissioned when his manufacturer ran into a tougher problem than intergalactic conflict: balancing the cutthroat world of business, competition, and staying on top of their exponentially increasing loans. As Strings's owners hemorrhaged funds and the loan collectors came a'knocking, Strings had his weaponry removed and was sold as a messenger droid, a role that saw high mortality rates and was in higher demand, at least for those few years until assassin droids were back on the market; everyone realized it was easier to just shoot the other person than it was to sneak around with precious cargo.

And sneak around Strings did; he had gotten used to the relative monotony of travelling from point A to point B, and the occasional odd-job that would require using his intimidating body to hide said precious cargo in the midst of gunfights, during which he would be helpless despite his exterior saying he was anything but. When the demand for assassin droids changed, Strings found an opportunity to coast by, procuring an imaginary buyer out of nowhere and subtly suggesting to his owners the idea of his being sold. He bought himself with his owners' money and ran before the fake buyer could be allowed to never show up, leaving behind a trail that pointed in every direction and seemed to suggest to his owners that they had been conned by a wide variety of groups and individuals, most of which Strings had done business with during the course of his courier career.

Now on the run, half-convinced no one would bother wasting their time going after a single droid, with no weapons and no drive to use them, Strings is a lad who can get the job done by running away and then doubling back when he's convinced his enemies have gone, he's a hero like no other because he isn't one. More of a droid-who-was-also-there-I-guess.

Despite being designed for combat, Strings has lived a life that alternates between the expected boldness and confidence that would make a remorseless assassin droid such as himself excel, and a timid meekness that would ensure his own survival above all other priorities, the survival of his person and his cargo being what was expected of him.

Consequently, Strings desires for a scenario in which his body would always be allowed to be maintained without the risk of its termination. This is to say, he desires a peaceful life. Whether it's taking shelter in the middle of nowhere or hiding in the depths of an asteroid, Strings walks the path of least resistance and tries to avoid conflict.
