Background
Urien was born on the sith homeworld decades before the rise of Tulak Hord. He was raised no differently than anyone else in his society, being trained to take up a position in the priesthood of the sith. This, however, did not sit well with young Urien, as he had no interest in taking up the profession of his people. After hearing this, the academy shunned him and he was soon banished from the ranks of the Kissai and even the sith as a whole. While at first disheartened, Urien learned to take joy in what little he had. He was able to thrive in the harsh environment of Korriban's wilderness. His attunement with the force and the wildlife around him gave him an edge that saved him from the death that the vicious setting Urien found himself in would give to any mere mortal.
It had been over 50 years since Urien had been banished from sith society. In this time, the Kissai was able to create a comfortable living situation for himself, taking care of and protecting the wildlife around him. His training in the priesthood helped him to hone his skills in the force, becoming the arbiter of the great Korriban wilderness. In this time, he was able to save and soon mentor a brash young Massassi warrior into his lifestyle.
When Tulak Hord finally came into power over the sith planet of Korriban, he took exceptional notice at the old hermit in the wastelands. Urien was chosen to be a part of his Six-Fingered Hand, an elite group of warriors doing his bidding.
