Bavo's parents died when he was young and was raised until the age of 8 by his older brother. Both Mirialan youth were picked up by local authorities for reckless endangerment after an "accidental" speeder theft. Bavo and his brother were enrolled in COPE (Challenge Optimize Prepare Enhance) Training. During their third week of wilderness training, the entire group was ambushed by predators. Bavo was the lone survivor later realizing that his sensitivity to the Force kept him one step ahead of the wild beasts.

Upon returning to civilization, his story became local legend and Luminara Unduli herself honored him with a visit. She sensed young Bavo's potential with the force and brought him to Coruscant to train and Bavo eventually became her Padawan. His training focused on enhancing his innate agility and curiosity.

Bavo gravitated toward Anakin Skywalker, a moody young padawan skilled in piloting. They spent many hours dueling in simulators and from Anakin, Bavo learned to let the force guide his piloting in much the same way it had warned him of predators in the forests of Mirial. He quickly gained a reputation of being one of the better pilots in the academy though he was never able to tinker with his ship or droids for the extra advantage that Anakin always seemed to find. Luminara often joked that choosing Bavo as a Padawan had been one of convenience as she always knew who would chauffeur her to her many diplomatic engagements.

In the Ilum caves, Bavo found two kyber crystals after following an illusion of his brother as they ran away from vicious predators. Bavo's discipline overruled his fear and he was able to dispel the illusion. When he returned from the caves he began the long and complicated process of harnessing the power of both crystals into a double-bladed lightsaber.

Bavo took his oaths of Knighthood shortly before the Battle of Genosis. He was greatly honored by the Jedi Council when they asked him to take over the tutelage of Yarmina, a Padawan who showed great prowess with a similar weapon but different fighting style. He sensed the young Zabrak's ambitions and immediately began looking for a way to remove her from the competitive environment the Academy could create for one such as she. He spoke with Luminara about assignments in the Outer Rim and she asked him to lead a small mobile strike unit made up of clones of his choosing.

Knowing he would need a variety of specializations to survive on this long term scouting mission, Bavo chose clones who exhibited unique talents and a little bit of luck.

Bavo is infectiously curious. He knows the personal strain his curiosity can cause all too well. He considers himself responsible for the death of his brother and he hunts those who prey on the weak.

Curiosity - Bavo is driven to learn new things, to seek out and discover new information, and to expand his knowledge and understanding of those things that interest him.

Obsession - Sometimes, interest in something can turn into obsession if not tempered with reason. Bavo can slip into an obsessive state over discovering information, accomplishing a goal, or defeating a rival, ignoring all else until success is his.
